Hi. New guy. I bought a Monza 1x10 off of reverb.com. I was wondering if:
A) there was a 1x12 cab I could move. the amp into.
B) would it even matter. Meaning, would there be a noticeable difference in sound?
Thanks in advance!

Any small chassis combo cab will fit the head....so if some has a 1x12 cab empty from the likes of Ghia, Z28, M12 ect.... It would fit. I think you'd get more low end in the 12". If you have the Red Fang in the 10" you won't see much more volume out of any other speaker....but I'd suspect more low end and a little less boxy. The current set up will be lighter for sure and that could matter.

It has the Z branded speaker in it now. I'm going to put in a Celestion G10 Vintage 60. Not looking for more volume. Lol just less boxy sounding.

I also have a head version that I ruin through a Port City 2x12. I grabbed the 1x10 combo to have a grab and go version.

I also have a head version that I ruin through a Port City 2x12. I grabbed the 1x10 combo to have a grab and go version. It just seems boxy compared to the head and 2x12 cab....but a 10" cuts in a band different. Yes it has less bass response BUT it's more middle frequency helps it to not tread on other instruments frequency zone. .... Thereby broadening the overall spectrum of tonality in totality... Anyway...it might grow on you....but a cab will run you less than 500 bucks usually if you wait for one to pop up.

Fwiw, I've been through dozens of speakers... Many in the 1x10 Z cab. The ten inch red fang is the first ten that did not sound like one. I like it better than the twelve inch version. It might be a solution... That said, other that the cost, a cab switch is an easy change.

I would second the red fang suggestion. It is loud with the master off and to me does not sound boxy but still cuts. The only other thing I might suggest is trying both the 10 you have and another cab. I got a y speaker cable that I some times run both my 10 in red fang and another 112 cab at the Sane time. Todd PCNS makes them on this forum as do others. Just plug into the other 4 ohm in back if running parallel. I think todd makes them that run series too, to use 8 or 16. May even have one for sale here in the trade section.

I installed a Celestion G10 yesterday and so far I really like it. The speaker is brand new so it will have to break in, but, so far so good.

Had anyone tried cutting a new speaker baffle?

I've tried lots of different speaker configurations and drivers with the Monza, and I came to the realization that it really sounds best with the stock 10" Red Fang. The more I play it the more I love that amp. I just pulled it out of the studio and brought it into the living room with my Les Paul Std. straight in. Billy in a Box for real. Even throttled WAY back with the master volume it sounded fat and full, trebly but not blaringly so. What a great little amp. It's a true wolf in sheep's clothing.

Since I am a newbie I don't have access to the Buy and Sell Thread yet. Can someone hook me up and tell me if anyone is selling a Monza sized head cab? I've come to the conclusion that I just don't like the sound of a combo. Or more specifically, open backed Combo.

Well, not a Monza, but...I recently converted my Pro Jr. from it's stock 1X10 to a Mojotone 1X12 cab that's made specifically for the Jr. chassis. I can say it absolutely made a difference as far as the amp sounding bigger and less "boxy". Before, it was strictly a studio amp, now I have actually gigged with it.

I was able to locate a 1x12 combo cab. Just gotta find the right 12" speaker now.
