Anyone know where I can get a pair of EL-84s in the Houston, TX area? JJ is preferred but any will do for the weekend.

Any Sam Ash or Guitar Centers near you? They usually have 'em.

Stores that sell Mesa amps usually have tubes, including el84s.
I've used them, and they work just fine.

After my first situation with this scenario I made it a point to always have at least one extra set of tubes - power, pre, or rectifier, stored safely in another amp!
But in any case, spares are always important, and get them from a reliable source. Good luck today!

The guitar center near me has a set on hold. Any experience with groove tubes?

I liked them more back before Fender bought them. They should be good. What bias range did you get (red white or blue)?

All is well, I went to my storage unit Friday on the suspicion that I had a spare pair of tubes and I was right, this made me happy since GC wanted $56 for the pie of Groove Tubes. When I got there and saw the price tag I laughed and walked away. I got on Tube Depots site and ordered a set of JJs for $25 including shipping and 24hr burn in. Why were those tubes so much? Are they that much better, branding, mark up or all the above?

Mostly mark up and branding. Though they do some testing as well. I prefer to use Mike at KCA NOS Tubes or Tube Depot personally.

The tubes I have on order are from Tube Depot. They have good prices and have a lot of info on their site regarding the tubes.
