I've got a Maz 18, but have been thinking that a Carmen Ghia may suit me a bit better? I'm a tele player... and find that the maz can be exceedingly bright bright at times. When pushed, I find it bit too "crunchy" for my taste. Don't get me wrong...it's a great amp...and I've gotten some great tones out of it. However, I'd like something a bit warmer/darker/smoother. Would I be moving in the right direction with the Ghia? btw...I used to have an early KT45 that I wished I hadn't gotten rid of

I don't think so. I have a Ghia and have had two Maz Jrs.
The Ghia can be just as bright as the JR. And without a treble or cut control, you may be disappointed. I'm a tele player too, and I usually turn the guitar tone down a little bit, knowing I can always open it back up if I need something bright.
The Ghia gets crunchier earlier than the maz. (especially the older Ghia models.)
Here's another way to look at it:
Maz= 2 parts vox...1 part Marshall Ghia- 2 parts Marshall...1 part vox.
I'm an old 4 input Marshall guy, so the Ghia is a little more appealing to me.
Looking for something a bit warmer/darker/smoother? Try a Z-28.

John's exactly right on two accounts:
(1) For better or worse, the Ghia can be just as bright as the MAZ. And without a full complement of EQ knobs that's difficult to dial out.
(2) I'd recommend checking out the Z-28, which could also be described as warmer/darker/smoother than the MAZ. (I don't think I've ever heard anybody ever say a single negative thing about the Z-28.) Brad Paisley has apparently used it on his country stuff in the past, too.

Thanks guys! I've thought about the Z-28 as well. Was trying to keep the decibels down...but in truth, round/thick comes at a price;) I love the 4-input Marshalls as well. They've got the "iron" and move enough air to get big and thick. So, maybe a Z-28 wouldn't be a bad way to go. I'd probably be using something like an old Superbass if I didn't care about my ears;)...lol.
On a side note, I have been thinking about a Tweed-deluxe (Tungsten Cortez) as well...

If you're looking for a tweed type sound you might want to listen to a Galaxie - lot go good tweediness there.

I've got a Ghia 25 Anni, Z28, Rati v2, Therapy and KT45.
I think you may be looking for a Z28, with the right speaker (mine is a 1x10 combo with C Gold, but a lot of speakers and speaker configurations sound good with it). There are an awful lot of options there, and I've never found the 28 overly bright, so that shouldn't be a problem for you.
