A little while back I put new power tubes in my Ghia combo w the Red Fang 10". It was a whole lot louder than I remembered it. Not a complaint btw.
I've been using my baby blue small box combo Mather Cab cut for a 12" with the Eminence Lil' Texas as an end table for a while. The wife likes it.
I realized that when I gave up on this speaker 'cause it wasn't cutting it with the band maybe it wasn't the speaker at all? Maybe it was the tubes? So, back in the baby blue cab goes the Ghia.

I await your findings Eric. I've wondered to myself if a Tonkerlite might be a better match with the Ghia?
I have a Lil' Texas in a Vintage Sound 112P (PR clone) with 20 watt trannies and I really do like it a lot. This amp will run 6L6s with only a rebias, and that's what I'm using in it. It retains that BF vibe but is a clean machine, which I was looking for. Did I mention 28 pounds?
Doesn't matter, I'm still planning on a Z-Luxe!

I have the Tonkerlite in another amp and like it a lot.
I did just do a side by side comparison w the Lil' Texas & the Red Fang here in the apartment. Seemed much closer than I remembered them that's why I'm really thinking the old tubes were in play. I should send an e-mail out to my building and see if they could tell the difference?
Last time I played the gig I'm going to tonight I took the MAZ 8 and it was the most perfect amp.....I'll have to see how I feel later.....

I took the Ghia-NEO 12" to the gig last night. I had the volume much lower than I usually use (V 9 o'clock, T at 1) Used my CR-8 w the Voodoos. Played most the gig w the GV's at 8. Had the Nano w the tuner-Mellow Yellow-Deep Blue-KTR. Used the KTR for a couple solos. Enjoyed the sort of 'fighting back' I was getting from playing that clean but it still had a lot of body. I miss owning my own bar but I do like playing on this guy's monthly gig.

I have always read that NEO speakers are a little bright on the high end - did you find that to be the case? Or were you able to dial it in with the Ghia tone knob?

I've never found NEO's to be brighter than other speakers. I own 2 different Eminence ones and a Jensen. When I went back and forth between them at home (not cranked up) the tone of the 2 speakers was very similar.

I've played a few more gigs with the Lil' Texas 12" NEO in the pine cab Carmen Ghia and I'm really certain that when I first tried this setup my power tubes must have been on the way out. I played a couple of the same clubs and holy mackerel the Ghia sure had the goods. 2 chords at soundcheck and just like magic there's the poor kid with the beard at the console going "you are going to have to turn that thing down". It sounded great on the bandstand....inagural gig w the Melody Maker Explorer too. That thing's a keeper.

You know, roscoe, you and I are about the only ones here who use the term "bandstand," which is what I've always played my jobs on, whatever the venue.
I don't know how old you are, but today is my 63rd birthday.
You have a nice night!
