OBTW, Eminence's Cannabis Rex is a great speaker for knocking the ice picks off too. However, like Roscoe alluded to above, if you change these amps to suit yer teles, they might suck with your strat....maybe if the teles sound goods with a different speaker, you might just get an extension cab for that particular speaker....or have one Ghia for strats and one for teles... I agree....I used the Rex in one of my Z cabs and it sounded real good, knocked the high end of real nice...

Hate sure is a strong word, just sayin.
DR.Z I hate mayonnaise. Passionately. Ghia/Tele isn't my favorite thing in the world, but I'm usually OK eating that sandwich.

Also, at the risk of stating the obvious, not all Teles are alike. I found the variations in bridge pickups vary enormously e.g. which alnico is used, staggered vs flat pole pieces, resistance etc all made a big difference. In particular I had trouble making one of my Teles sound good with one of my (non-Z) amps. After a few experiments with Antiquities, Nocaster variants, I finally settled on the Duncan Jerry Donohue bridge pickup as giving me the right balance. - for my particular application at least. The

Try switching to P-90's.

Howdy,
Happy CG and Tele owner chiming in. My take is that the CG prefers to party with Gibsons, especially P-90 Gibsons (I realize I'm sticking my chin out!). That said, I played my CG and Tele at a private party the other night and all was fine tonally. I simply rolled my Tele's tone knob back about 33% and rotated my Ghia's tone knob to 12 noon. Treble issues solved.
PS: With British-voiced AlNiCo speakers, the Ghia cannot be beat.

This subject came up when I was 'away' from the forum for a while.
Ice pick?
Don't bother with swapping speakers, don't bother with changing pickups. Just turn your (guitar) tone knob down. .....nuff said. End of discussion.
When I use my tele and Ghia, I have the tone knob set permanently around 3/4 of the way open...not fully open. Roll it back until your ice pick highs are gone.
I also had to do the same thing with my stangray.

In fact one mod I almost always do to a tele is to remove the neck pickup from the tone circuit. That way, you can leave the tone rolled back to where you'd want it for the bridge pickup, and when you switch to the neck, its still nice & spanky. I've never had the need to roll back the tone on a neck pickup, so it works really for me.

I can't imagine not being able to sweep the "ice pick" out with the Ghia's own tone knob.

The CRex sounds great wth both my Strat and Tele. I was playing the Tele for the longest time, neglecting the Start - until I got the Ghia. The Ghia really gets along with the weaker pups on the Strat. More color and chime in all 5 pup positions. The CRex is the least boxy, mid honky or shrill speaker I've tried. It just purrs at both ends of the spectrum. Very smooth, yet with plenty of definition and clarity, especially with the Ghia's hot rod gain curve.

Retube. Get a full on JJ kit . V30s are the optimal middle of the road speaker for your CGs. I'm not sure what kind of tele you have but my US standard sounds phenomenal w/ my Ghia for worship and country. Zero cry from either (British) v30s or z 10s. If you've got a squire vintage modified, look into some Duncan p/u's.

I always used a V30 to de-ice Fender Deluxe Reverbs. Those pickups too never gave me an ice-pick feeling. I recently just got a CG 2x10. I've read on TDPRI that the Z 10s are tweaked V10s. I'm thinking I need to play my tele through my 2x10 CG and see what I hear. My partscaster has a 52 RI bridge pickup in it I believe so I gotta see about this!

Well I forgot I started this thread a while back. Just to update everyone, I tried some different tubes, two different speakers, and even a different cab I have laying around, but I never was able to get the CG to agree with my teles to a point I was happy with them. In the end I prefered the original V30, the original tube compliment that they left the factory with, and a strat plugged into the front. So I use these amps with my strats and use other amps with my teles. Hate sure is a strong word, just sayin.
DR.Z Sorry Doc, I did say I loved the amps with my other guitars if that helps any. I have no plans to get rid of these.

Can't, volume is actually where I need it for most gigs, any more and it either overpowers the stage monitors or starts to overdrive. I use these as clean amps and use pedals for the dirt.
