Hi,new member here. I bought a Maz 18 nr about a year ago and I love it! I recently noticed some weird noises lately and I'm wondering if it is tube related. Some times I'll get a siren type noise or a low end thump or deep click when amp is idling. I have tried playing without any pedals, tried different cords and still have this problem. It is very intermittent. Today no problem. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Most likely a tube ( just about guarantee it) , most likely a preamp tube. And Welcome to the forum!!

Thanks for the reply. I have some spare 12AX7s. I swap them out and see what happens.

Ok. I checked the tubes and noticed that the phase inverter tube had no glow with amp on. It is a Sovtek 12ax7LPS. I have spare Sovtek12ax7WA and Mesa STR-12ax7A. Would either of these be ok until I get the proper replacement?

The glow of the tube really tells nothing. If the phase inverter was dead the amp would not give you anything. Some just glow more than others. Either of those tubes will work fine in that position to test the amp. If you like the sound with them there leave them if it fixes the problem. One other thing to check. Make sure your cell phone is off or in airplane mode. Amps will sometimes pick up the sound of the phone trying to catch a tower and it can sound like what you describe. It's especially common with Iphones on AT&T. Also be sure and try the amp in another location on another power circuit in the house as well as another guitar and to eliminate them as the problem. I see you tried a different cable. Be sure and only change one thing at a time or if you get the problem solved you won't know what did it if you change more than one. That's true of tube swapping too. Sub one, if it's not fixed, replace the old, move on to the next.

Thanks for the input. I'll try Turning the cell off. It is an iphone. If that doesn't help I'll try swapping tubes 1 at a time.
