This is probably widely known, but I did not realize that there were so many more clips on Dr Z amps available from the pro guitar site of which there are a few clips on the Dr's website. This link gets to them all. www.proguitar.de/AudioDemo/mp3/Amp-CD/Dr.Z.Amps/It's nice that there are some of the same amps with different speaker combos and I notice the difference! (I am notorious for stating that I cannot tell the difference between clips, but definately cranked Maz 18 through 1x12 is very different from 2x10.)

I find it's so hard to get an accurate representation of the the amp in a sound clip. All the demos are excellent and induce some serious gas... My Z dealer is just over 2.5 hours away so I wanted to listen to as many clips as I could and make sure they had the model I wanted when I went in.
But when you "feel" each Z the whole game changes so to speak. There's something about Z's responsiveness, touch sensitivity and dynamics that cannot be heard on a clip. They fill the room a certain way and add another dimension to the sound, something nonexistant in mass produced marshall/fender amps.
I enjoy the clips and it's great that members take their time to post some cool clips but I find that I can only get into decision making mode in the store when the amp is cranked and my ears are bleeding!

I agree about the clips 100 percent but when you live in BFE and the nearest Z dealer is 100 miles away thats about all you have to go on. Then, when I make the drive they usually don't have the one I want to try out. I guess I could go over to Curts' ;D

We have come to the conclusion that, "Buying a Dr Z is a fantastic value and you will get a great sound" Knowing that, does it not make sense that given that listening to a series of DR Z clips for amps which I have not heard in person, would it not make sense that comparing one recorded amp to another becomes a reasonable comparison. Also remember that we were not present during the recording of most of the classic guitar tones we hope to emulate. So already, we are emulating recorded tones anyway. I would swear my route 66 sounds pretty close to Led Zeppelin II. I was certainly not around for that studio recording. Just food for thought.

I agree that using clips to base a purchase decision is risky. But so far, I've purchased the Stingray and the RXES from what I heard, and they both exceeded my expectations by a mile. I think the value of the Pro Guitar site is that you get to hear a comparison of all the amps via similar playing. It may not give you the 100% deal you'll hear when you plug in, but you can tell the Stingray is a lot cleaner than (enter high gain monster here).

The weird thing about those clips for me is if I was to pick an amp solely based on the clips, I'd probably have bought the Z-28. I dig the "Z-28 heavy with les paul into 2 blues" clip.
The heavy setting on the Rt 66/Les Paul clip has the bass cut way back and the treble dimed. I never play mine like that which is maybe why it didn't jump out at me. Maybe the blues can't handle the bass response but I never have either tone control very far from the other.
I like listening to the speaker clips as well.
