Hi all, Here are some Maz 18 Head clips from my good friend Steam (aka Patrick Pacheco). Steam is a great French singer/guitarist. Mostly influenced by Hendrix and SRV he defined his own style as “Hard Blues”. He will be pleased to have your feedback. Thanks for him. RiveraSRV cover - Maz 18 Head - 2x12” cab loaded with Celestion Greenback – Telecaster w/Bigsby. Save MeSave Me solo - a la Hendrix rock song - Maz 18 Head - 2x12” cab loaded with Celestion Greenback - 1986 RI 62’Strat w/Velvet Hammer pickups - Fulltone OCD - Vox Wah Big ToneHere is an example of what can be obtained with a Gretsch 6120 (yes, it's one a those big Gretsch), a Maz 18 Head, a 2x12” cab loaded with Celestion Greenback and a Fulltone OCD.

Could only get one clip to load. Sounded quite nice - very clean and articulate. EDIT: Just got the last 2 clips to load (just slow connection I guess). Really dig the last 2...nice grind. Makin' me want to pick up another Jr head.

Nice!! Great to hear some heavier tones coming out of the Maz. It's primarily how I use mine too. IS this the Non-Reverb model?? Looks like I am going to have to get a 2x12 with Greenies in it now.

IS this the Non-Reverb model?? This one has both the reverb and the fx loop.

I dug the first two clips, not so much the last one. It was good, just not my thing. I really enjoyed the 'Save Me' clip and my 7 year old found it air guitar worthy. ;D

I really enjoyed that - all three clips, for different reasons. That third clip reminds me of something Mr. Holland said in "Mr. Holland's Opus" when he played Louie Louie for his class and pointed out how stupid it was, then asked why we like it so much. "Because it's fun!"
Anyway, he sure has figured out how to get a lot of great tones from that one setup!

Hey great playing man. All good, but really enjoyed "Save Me". You were in the zone...THE TONE ZONE.

Freaking awesome. That is the TONE man! Loved them all, but Save Me smokes. What settings were you using on the amp?

Very Nice! I know my 6120 can get pretty hairy through my 66 with the OCD as well.
Great tones.

Can you get those SRV-clean type tones at stage volume from a maz jr? I've really been digging the jr. lately, but I'm not sure if it'll have enough headroom for me.

Who needs a 100 watt Marshall stack? Great clips. Nice aggressive tone.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Patrick will really appreciate it. I'm pleased to see that you like "Save Me". It's a great rock song. I will let you know when Steam release it with the vocals. Can you get those SRV-clean type tones at stage volume from a maz jr? I've really been digging the jr. lately, but I'm not sure if it'll have enough headroom for me. It's true that once crancked it becomes difficult to get a clean sound with the Maz Jr. That's the drawback of the 18W. However, Steam always plays with a cruncky sound so in his case it's not really a problem. The Maz 18 really rocks! It produces a very musical crunch sound. I love it!

Quite a variety of tone there, which is what attracted me to a Jr. So many people look at a Gretsch and think, boring. Not so. Pete Townshend used a Gretsch given to him by Joe Walsh for nearly all post-Tommy Who and solo recordings. www.thewho.net/whotabs/gretsch.htm

Wow! Everything about those clips was great. The tones, the playing and touch... everything. It really demonstrates that Steam has learned how to fully morph the Maz Jr platform into anything he wants - very cool. Please post some more clips!!!
My Maz Jr is my soul mate amp, and I am just now rediscovering greenbacks with Z-amps and really liking it.

Yep it is a Walnut body with koa neck telecaster + a bigsby trem on the rivera sample...
The Maz jr has great tones for all blues, rock, and vintage style sound. It breaks pretty early and can be used at "usefull" volume. But it is not a silenced amplifier !!! On the same 2x12 cabinet with greenback, gimik and i, we've made some test with the MAZ jr, a Mesa boogie lonestar special and a 1970 50W jmp Marshall head.
The volume of the MAZ jr is not so far away from the Marshall but it doesn't kick your arse with the same force... For pure clean SRV tone the MAZ sr would be better i think.
personally, i prefer playing loud on the amp with a big crunch tone and use my hands and figgers to play with a clean or a crunch sound.
this is why i use the greenback speakers and why i will make a second cabinet with celestion blue. I love the way those speakers break and make that sweet and fat musical compression.

Loved all three, great guitar playing and lots'o soul on "Save me" but man I friggen love the Big Tone, that just rocks. LOVE GRETSCH!!! What year 6120 is that, stock pups? A white falcon is one of my dream guitars but now maybe a 6120.
I've been looking at the Maz Jr head and Z28 (posted in ask the experts for feedback) and this really leans me towards the Maz.
Thanks for posting

Wow, well done. "Save me" had some incredible harder sounds. It's rare to hear remotely decent tone on hard-rock riffs like that, but you nailed it. Great clips.
