Thread title aside...I powered up the Monza today. It has been months. No volume, no drive. Power tubes glowing in a healthy way, but a mushy clean weenie sound.
Preamp tubes? What do you think?

Likely tubes. First check all connections, guitar cord, speaker cord, connections on the speaker, go direct into the amp no pedal board. If that doesn't fix it start with the preamp tubes and change one out at a time. Should only need a 12AX7 for that amp. If no improvement, put the old one back. Start on far left looking at the back. If none of them fix it, change out the power tubes with a matched set. Lastly suspect the rectifier. After that it's likely out of your hands.

I'll have to get some tubes, I guess. Fingers crossed...

With Dr Z amps, probably 98% of the amp function problems are due to the sub par quality tubes available today...

Oh my, oh my, oh my.
My Z amps have sat for too long, as most of my live gear has. My new band is gearing up to get out of the basement (where I'm using a Vox AC4TV w/OD pedals) and onto a stage soon, so everything has been unpacked and played in a little bit. The problem I was having with the Monza seems to have been an issue with the Volume pot needing a good cleaning. Haven't had an issue in days now, so I'm thinking that's all I had to worry about.
Oh, and what a few days it has been. Got the Air Brake wired in, and been plaing my Hamer 25th Anniversary through the Monza. The 25th is an all mahogany instrument with Duncan JB & '59 pickups. It's chambered with an f-hole. The Monza LOVES this guitar! Picture (in your mind's...ear)...a singing, mid heavy electric violin. Chords are massive (and if you are careful with the Drive knob, have a clarity to them).
Invited my singer over for a listen (he lives across the street). His eyes got wide, then he grinned and said "now THAT is what I'm talkin' about!"
The Monza: That's What I'm Talkin' About.

Yes the Monza loves to be itself and seems to me to prefer not having buffers in front of it. Mine loves Fuzz but I've been running my delay and modulation thru my Ghia in a wet/dry set up with the Monza. The Monza is the dominate personality in the pairing and the Ghia doesn't mind playing sub-servient partner.
Just so much personality in the Monza....she speaks up for herself if she doesn't like something and wins you over with her fiery spirit. I need to get out of the basement and start playing live again. Congrats on the change !!
