I just got an antidote head, love it is an understatement!! I was at practice today and was cranking it through an old open back Dr Z cab with two greenbacks in it. It was wired in series running at 4 ohm. I blew one speaker today and want to replace the speakers in that cab. Does anyone blow the v30's? Should I be running it parallel at 16 ohm? Love the sound, just don't want to blow up too much stuff, haha.

Were these 8 ohm speakers? Just asking because two 8 ohm speakers wired in series = 16 ohms , in parallel 4 ohms. I believe the V30 is rated for considerably more power handling (watts) than a Greenback , so you would be less likely to blow the V30. And welcome to the forum!

Yeah, if you had two greenbacks at 4 ohms they almost had to have been in parallel. I'm surprised that one blew with the antidote though. That speaker config should handle 50 watts without a problem.
If I were in your boat, I'd get a celestion creamback, G12M65. Provided your remaining greenback is 8 ohm, I'd pick the 8 ohm creamback. Then I'd run them in series, which would make the total load 16 ohm. Be sure the new creamback is the first speaker. This would be a similar concept to the zwreck cab. The high powered gold is first in line so that the lower powered blue doesn't take the first hit.
That will make a great sounding cab with the Antidote. I believe Gearmanndude's antidote cab, the silver on in the videos has a Creamback and a greenback. Check that out.

Frank, (BritInvasion) is right on the money....he always is. Most cabs are run in parallel, but they don't have to be....just personal preference.
One thing I might add tho is if you put a V-30 in with the remaining Greenie, you'll hear the V-30 louder than the Greenie. The V-30 is a 100 db speaker, and the Greenie is like 96-97. 3 or 4 db's is very noticeable.
Also when you combine two speakers of different power handling abilities, you double the weaker speaker's power rating to get the total cabinet's power handling capability: ie: one Greenie @ 25 watts plus one V-30 at 60 watts together will handle 50 watts total (twice the greenie).
And YES, Welcome to the forum, bro!

Series wiring would make two 8 ohm speakers a 16 ohm total cabinet. If you like the Greenback tone but are looking for higher power rating take a look at the Creamback 55 Hz. V30's are difficult to break in and can sound quite displeasing until they are broken in so keep that in mind.

If you want to go a lower cost route and keep the greenback sound you could get a WGS Reaper for about $70. They sound better than the Celestion Greenbacks being sold these days.

Both great speakers, especially for the money. Another option is Scumback. I'm pretty much a Scumback fanboy these days. I was using a Creamback with my Remedy and swapped it for a Scumback M75 65w (higher wattage pre-Rola style Greenback). Never looked back!

I generally use one Creamback. It is rated at 65 watts I believe. In my somewhat old an foggy recollections I'm surprised the Greenback failed. I thought the 50 watt dissipation the two greenies would be rated at was sufficient for the 'Dote. Perhaps one speaker was weak? If you liked the sound, I'd probably get another and run them in serries to get 16 ohm load and rock on. Two creambacks would be nice. I have run a pair of V30's and they Rock!

I like Creambacks and Vintage 30s with the Antidote. The WGS ET65 sounds great too!

Creambacks (M65) through two Dr.Z 1x12 cab’s….just pure sweet tone! One interesting thing, it really depends a lot on the cabinet used. For instance, with my Dr.Z 2x12 open back my Creamback’s sound very Vox’y with lots of chime, lots of mids & high end, but with a very rolled off low end…very classic indeed!
With the two 1x12 cab's there is a huge bass push (usually associated with closed back cabs) & great highs, but with a scooped midrange. The Creamback M’S are very mid focused, so I think they go well with the 1x12 closed or open back. One other interesting note, with the 2x12 open back the Creambacks flub out much earlier than just one 1x12 cab. When using two 1x12’s there’s a much bigger tone, & no flubbing out at a higher volume….im talking ear bleeding volume though....love it!
Cheers!
