I just had the amp on, played a while, then just turned the volume down to play again later.
While I was on the couch, about ten feet from the amp, I heard a sudden weird sound in that area, pop and a scratch. One cat beside me jumped up in a fit from the noise and I thought it was the other around the gear.
When I went and looked, I noticed the jewel light out on the amp, the switch was still in the "on" position. I leaned over the head to get a whiff, but no apparent smell.
I have another amp plugged into the power strip and it powers up.
Any ideas?

Likely blew a fuse. The question would be why. first suspect is power tubes, second is rectifier and last is preamp tube. When you check the fuse be sure and use a multimeter if it looks good to test it. If it's clear it's blown start subbing tubes in the above order. Here's the link from the Z site. drzamps.com/trouble_shooting.html

Right on Marc, hopefully something simple, like the fuse. Thanks for the info!

The fuse blowing for me has either been Rectifier or Power tube related with my Z's but I had a Swart one time that blew a resister and that caused my amps to stop making sound .... but the jewel light was still on just no sound, so that isn't really helpful at all but I'm hoping it was what Marc said.

I pulled the fuse, no tester, looks like a good time to finally get one. It does look like there's a shiny spot in the middle.
So, a 1 amp fuse 250 VP, whatever that is? Are these available at any hardware store? The slow blow?

Most quality hardware stores will carry a variety of fuses. Buy several because if you don't immediately find the suspect tube, you'll continue to blow fuses.

Buy a "slow blow". The trouble shooting page is very helpful. Good luck.

I've found mine at yer local Home Depots and such. Slow blow as they say is the only way to go and getting a few is smmmmart as you may need them for reasons stated. You might want to get a Voltometer whilst your there since they can be so handy around the house anyway.
