Well I have a bit of a dilemma as regards my R8.
I bought it 18 months or so a go, S/H on a bit of an impulse,as a stop gap before I ordered my Corsa Manalishi.
I have the Les Paul angle covered also with my 79' custom which I am highly likely to never part with and also have the buckers covered with my 335.
Having recently added a nice American vintage 64 telecaster to my stable I have been playing my Fenders a lot more (via my blackstar artisan 15 EF86 channel)and loving that chime and bite and drive.
I have been wanting to add a nice 56 style mapleboard strat to my stable for a long time and have seen a couple nice relic custom shop ones that have taken my eye though I have still to get to play them before I decide on one.
As a result I decided I would trade in the R8 as I paid far less for it than the going rate and am still likely to get more for it than I paid as trade in.
So have turned it back to stock ABR ,with new saddles as came to me with nylon saddles, and removed the Faber locking bridge.
I have also removed the Faber tonelock studs and refitted the stock tailpiece studs.
I really liked the Wolfetone Dr Vintage pickups it came with so have removed them(to put in my 335) and the russian PIO caps it came with.
I have purchased a S/H set of Burstbucker 2 & 3 ,research says this is what was originally on 2007 R8's,and fitted them along with its original fake bee on the neck and an 022 orange drop on the bridge and I recently fitted a quad of CTS TVT pots.
Now the real Dilemma..........
The burstbuckers have transformed the guitar into a bit of an animal and guess what I really like the transformation.
It sounded very very vintage before with low output pickups and the airier tone the Faber stuff imparts but now sounds really hot and darker and totally different to what the Corsa and my Custom offer.
I am beginning to think, with all the stuff on the net about changing out stuff on reissues, that Gibson actually have got something good(though not particularly vintage sounding)going on with their stock parts.
I can afford to keep it as well as buying a strat but three bucker equipped Lesters is overkill and I always thought if I added another Lester it would be a P90 equipped goldtop or a P90 loaded Corsa.
What would you do?
