Hey guys, just wanted to say that I really appreciate all the time and comments you give to this forum. I have found a lot of answers and good advice here.
I have been playing on my Ghia now for about two months and can't get enough of it! My Fender amps have taken a back seat since the Z came in the door.
After finally getting the opportunity to run this thing at about 3 o'clock on the volume dial, I see what all the fuss is about! The tone is second to none! My question is at that volume setting...with my guitar volume rolled all the way off...is it normal for the amp to have a loud hum?

I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but mine has the same hum you mention. I'd be interested in finding out if this is the norm or not.

Yep...that's it! If I had the Dr Z airbrake, would that lower the noise at that volume?

i suppose the question is how quiet is it in the room and how loud is the hum. Some white-noise sound would be normal but probably shouldn't be humming. How about if you turn the amp on without anything plugged into it? Still the same noise?

The louder you turn up the amp volume, the more hiss/hum you're going to have. That's just the way tube amps are. The selection of the tube in V1 makes a big difference. If that tube is noisy, then the rest of the amp will amplify noise. Perhaps you can try a different tube if you have any extras at home. Maybe find the one with the lowest noise.

Without anything plugged into the amp it is fairly quiet. At gigging volume 9-10 o'clock there is not really any hiss/hum. It's just when I push it up to 2-3 o'clock. Thanks John, I will give that a try!

Mine is pretty darn quiet without anything plugged in. I should probably invest in a good power supply for my pedals. That's one thing I never invested in.
