My Ghia currently has a Celestion Alnico Gold 10 in it. Great sounding combo, but a little loud for my needs. I have found my sweet spot, but to get to manageable levels I have to attenuate it quite a bit and it's sucking too much tone. I'm thinking a less efficient speaker is the way to go. The Alnico Gold has a sensitivity rating of 98db. I was looking at the Celestion G10 Greenback as a replacement. It is rated at 95db. How much of a volume difference will there be with that 3db decline? Also, are there any other good speakers you have tried with the Ghia that have a lower sensitivity rating?

I can't verify the audible difference going from the G10 Gold to the G10 Greenback... but I can tell you that I have the G10 Greenback in a Z-10" cabinet paired with my Carmen Ghia and I love it.

A 3 db change in level is heard by the ear as being half as loud, so its a pretty big difference. I kind of like running less efficient speakers, though - you can turn up the amp louder for more breakup at a lower level than a more efficient speaker would deliver.
I'm running a 12" creamback with my Ghia, which is rated at 97db. That replaced a V30, which was 100db, and really LOUD.

I'd go with a 10" greenback. A 3db difference is significant.

Just had a 1x12 CG show up and am going to try it with a few different speakers. Have high hopes that a newly arrived UK GB will due the trick at knocking the db's down...
