My first Z amp was a Maz 18NR and I tho I still love that amp, lately, my Ghia (25th anniversary #6 in Red ) has been my go to amp. It took me a while to warm up to it, after all, it's hard to compete with the sound of a Maz 18 paired with a Strat. I recently joined a classic rock band so I am pairing my PRS DGT with my Ghia into a THD 2x12 cab loaded with WGS Green Beret speakers. With the Ghia, I have a habit of starting a gig using a pedalboard loaded with a variety of pedals, but as the night goes on and the volume goes up, I end up ditching the pedals and plug directly into the amp. What a great little amp!

I did the same thing yesterday. I had a Ghia and an RC boost. That was it.

The Ghia is a natural fit with a rock band. I love mine to bits. I've started using effects to actually effect the sound instead of enhance it. I just let the Ghia be itself and I love that sound but a killer fuzz pedal or my Flanger Hoax or some other weird crap that I use is to actually get an effected sound. I used to use effects more for subtle enhancement but the Ghia helped me to shed them.
My favorite amp of all time !!! I want another so I can run them stereo mmmmmmmmmmmm stereo
have fun

The Ghia really showed me how effective your guitar's volume knob can really be. There's so many different sounds just using the volume knob. I still like OD pedals, but I don't feel the need to have a whole bunch on the board anymore. Set the amp up for some dirt, roll the guitar's volume back for clean and use an OD when you really need to stand out.

You would never expect an amp so simple to sound so good. I change guitars frequently and the Ghia is so quick to dial in so I don't waste time tweaking a bunch of knobs. More time to play!

My two favourite amps, of which I have too many, are the Deluxe Blackface Reverb and the Carmen Ghia. The blackface jacked up with a strat sounds great with no pedals but the Ghia with a good OD sounds spectacular.

I've been using a single 1x12 w/Green Beret. Great crunch, and a nice clean. Tele or humbucker, the Ghia is amazing.

I just got two WGS speakers a 12" Reaper 55hz and a G10 C/S 10" - The Reaper 55hz sounds so sweet with the Ghia and the G10C/S sounds perfectly fitted to the Monza for me. The Dr Z amps are the first amps I've played that just having some pedals in front of the amp will actually take away from the full tone of the amp. It's got me picking everything in my signal chain much more closely. Not in a difficult way but in an expressive way....My Z amps bring colors to the table that I don't want to lose track of...P90's rule the Ghia for me both on a Les Paul and an old '57 ES125-T.

The Ghia is the Z amp that really opened my ears to the tone of the amp itself. I don't want anything in my chain to take away the fullness of that tone. It's the reason so many pedals I've used before now, have been shelved.
I think I'm playing better now because of that too. Nothing in the way, no distraction from the tone between guitar and Ghia.

Definitely agree,i'v ended up with just a tuner and a wah on the floor and the wah only gets used on two song's! And that's coming from a big board when I got my first z.

Man, you guys are killing me. I've lusted after a Ghia for years but have been completely satisfied with my Maz18 so that's kept me at bay. But, a local has just posted up a Ghia head for trade and I'm seriously thinking about making a run at it though I'm having a hard time thinking of letting go of another amp I've had for quite sometime that I think would be a fair trade offer (1985 Fender Super Champ) that I'd really like to hang onto. He's looking for other low wattage amps in trade. Hmmm...decisions, decisions...

Every so often I get a gig in a room where the Ghia is perfect. usually either take a 2X10 or a single 12. I always try to have some kind of reverb or delay (just a breath of either)to 'wake it up' a little and I always find that when I put anything in line besides a tuner, as I turn my guitar up the fx level goes up exponentially, so I just unplug all non essential superflu-isms run a cord in the front, and just wind 'er up. I borrowed a guy's Ghia and cab in Denmark for this gig (flew in and the backline choices the promoter had on hand were purty marginal) and tried to make it work like I always do but I guess either the head was in need of a re-tube and the speaker was a bit mushy too, no headroom at all to speak of so I turned the volume down and put a KoT in line (red channel) worked purty good just riding the guitar volume.

New to the forum but I'll throw in my Ghia pedal experience:
The Ghia doesn't seem to like cheaper pedals. Everything JHS or Strymon I have the Ghia absolutely loves. Everything EHX and Hardwire I had the Ghia would play nice with but the effects never really seemed to meld into the tone of the amp. It's definitely a boutique amp that loves boutique pedals. The JHS morning glory and moonshine sound absolutely wonderful bringing more gain to the Ghia
