Ummm... YEAH. Driven lately by the desire to go more "LP double-cut special" than what I currently have in the P90 department, I came across this every-so-slightly used beauty and couldn't pass it up. (And, of course, seeing Pete's sweet new guitar provided some encouragement, too.) I'd been looking more at the t.v. yellow SE Korina One models (imported, and only one pickup), but I mean come on... just look at this thing! And of course, what Z-talk "NGD" post would be complete if I didn't mention that it's due to arrive when I'm gonna be out of town? Oh man, I might actually be rushing back from my weekend vacation a little too fast. I just hope it feels & plays as great as it looks.

That looks like a great guitar. Love that all the electronics are on a single pickguard and away from strings so you can access them without detuning. Congrats on the score!

She has arrived! So, first of all... the PRS "25th Anniversary" case is far more pretty than I deserve (and it's heavy, too--the case, not the guitar, that is).
The guitar looks stunning, seems very well-balanced & very lightweight, and quite loud/resonant unplugged with excellent sustain. Neck seems to be on the narrow/skinny side, which is fine for my small-ish hands. Nice fretwork, and some really cool "outline" bird inlays, too. Still at work (where the box arrived) and haven't plugged it in yet, but man oh man I'm excited to plug this one in.
More to follow...

Now if I didn't have my LPS P90.............. ohhhhh, VERY cool! Interested to hear how those P90s sound......... I have Lollars fitted to my LP, and they are EPIC, but I know nothing about PRS P90s.

Interested to hear how those P90s sound......... . Well, they're a tad bit harsh.. and maybe not as clear as I prefer. Rumor is that Seymour Duncan builds 'em for PRS, but that is totally unconfirmed. But if that is the case, I'd have to expect that they're like the "vintage" model using Alnico V magnets, because when cranked they tend to get a bit harsh up top, similar to where a Vintage 30 speaker does so. Almost everyone agrees that "good" P-90s need Alnico II magnets, which (if mine are indeed Alnico V) might help with the harshness compared to these. My other P-90s (in an SG) are Fralin -15% neck/stock bridge, which are very clear & musical, and only really hint at being "barky" or noticeably powerful (traits I'd expect out of a P-90). Of course, I love the sound of those Fralins--they're wonderfully single-coil sounding--but something tells me they're maybe not the most "typical" barky & rude P-90s. So I dunno... I love the feel & overall build quality of this guitar, I love the neck, and I love its sustain. But hearing the pickups I haven't screamed to myself "Oh mah, THIS IS IT!" Been thinking that some Wolfetones (lots of love on TGP for the Mean & Meaner set) might be my ideal target at this point; I just hope I'd be able to retain some of that single-coil airy-ness and clarity with 'em. Still kickin' this one around in my head....

I'd fiddle with pup height before dropping new pups in altogether. My experience w p90s has shown height=clarity and overall output Congrats on the axe though. Very snazzy.

If what Christopher says doesn't work (but please do try, as he's absolutely correct - P90s seem more sensitive to height than most pups), definitely consider the Lollar P90s. Jason Lollar made his name with those, and the ones I have are, well, perfect P90s! (I have the stock neck and +5% bridge to balance the overall volume output - I couldn't adjust the height enough to do that on my LPS, and I wanted rude and bite, so no under-wounds for me )

Still kickin' this one around in my head.... Mark: Really cool guitar! Love the Miras I have owned too. They are too often overlooked in the PRS line. I've owned a handful of PRS McCarty and Custom 22 Soapbars over the past decade. They are indeed harsher than other vintage style P90s. I have had both PRS and SD confirm that they are "specially voiced" P90s that are manufactured for PRS. Not sure of the magnet, but your suspicions are well founded. I have swapped in Fralins in the past and it tamed the harshness quite well. I don't see any need for a "hot" P90. Congrats on a really cool guitar!

I always liked the look of Miras, but never pulled the trigger. I may just have to now! Congrats!

Drop them down mark to see if you can sweeten them up a little...I myself have never been able to bond w/p90 styles.
That's me though

The Mira looks nice, for sure, but it also feels really nice. Compared to some bigger/heavier solid-body electrics, this one almost feels like the "000-sized" electric guitar. Goldilocks would love it.

Goldilocks would love it. I find it's an incredibly "chuckable" guitar because of its size/weight - I just want to lay into it and give a good pasting! Mine just laughs out loud, and goes, "it that all you got - give it some more, son!"

Real nice!
I had a McCarty soap bar bought new. I thought the pups were a bit harsh too. When I took them out enough to look under them, they were stamped Seymour Duncan on the bottom. Think it had a model # too, can't remember. I adjusted them pretty far away from the strings and liked it much better.
If you do end up trying new pups, don't overlook Duncan Antiquities. I have them in my garage built P90 guitar (pic in my sig). I love it. Never thought about trying anything different, really sounds great, even with me playing! Quiet too.
Good luck with it. If you ever part ways with her shoot me a PM okay?
