Kind of thinking 80 bucks or less. Not looking for TS808 clones, boost pedals, or BOSS, Digitech type products.
Prefer transparent, analog overdrive. And reasonably robust build quality.
Maybe be the EHX Soul Food ?
Thoughts ?
Thanks, Gray

I just turn the volume up and use the guitar volume for what you need which works really easy with LP and separate volume controls. For a pedal under 80 bucks EHX does have quite a few in the Soul Food price range...I saw Frankie Starr using a Danelectro Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive that he said cost him 30 bucks and he sounded glorious. Don't discount Boss Blues Driver that's a really nice little pedal.
I'm sure others will chime in with smart options. Have fun on the search

Timmy, or the Barber Gain Changer, more options with the latter.
Not rock bottom prices, but low end of the small builders.

Let's see... for a few dollars more you can get the Barber Gain Changer which is a great versatile OD. I can understand not wanting a TS style, but DON'T write off BOSS pedals unless you've tried them all - they really do make some good, and even some great pedals for the money. That said, try an OD-3, you just might like it and they can be had pretty cheap especially in the used sector. The SD-1 is nice as well.
And just so you know I have a ton of boutique drives, but I could easily find some of the cheaper pedals, BOSS or TS style, and be completely satisfied. The new EHX stuff has been receiving tons of great reviews.

You also have all the mini pedals coming out that are basically clones of boutique products. The few I tried sounded good but I can't see the cheap switches lasting very long.

All of the Barber stuff is good; you just have to pick your flavor. I have 2 pedals, both modded by Robert Keeley, that really deliver and are probably available on the used market: Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive and Boss BD-2 (Blues Driver). The mods give a lot more gain range in both of them. Really, though, the Xotic SL might very well do it for you.

Yep - a cool little pedal which is supposed to be a Marshall Superlead (hence SL) - very versatile since it has a dip switch that does a generic SL, a Super Bass, a JCM 800. I like it and it's so small and light!

Have you checked out any of the Danelectro pedals?
Eddie had a post a couple years ago about them. I have a few around the house as well.

Guys, thanks for all of the comments and suggestions.
I stumbled on an older version Catalinbred Dirty Little Secret pedal at the local Guitar Center in the used pedal display case (it is silver w/ 3 knobs). I think it is way more dirt than I actually need, but I will just dial it back with the Ghia. But I couldn't pass it up, I saw it and wondered how it even got to Indianapolis in the first place, and/or why anyone would part ways with it, but anyway, I will give it a whirl tonight and see how it goes.
Otherwise, I was kind of moving toward picking up the Xotic SL drive as well.
