Last night I got to play music with a long time friend and former bandmate/fellow guitarist and my drummer. I brought the Ghia in a 1x10 combo with Red Fang and he has the Bogner Metropolis with a 12" Vintage 30. I had the Ghia set thusly - V=3 o'clock T=11 o'clock, and Ol' Harry the trusty LP w/P90's volume around 5-7 for rhythm and well you know the rest....
First of all if not for the Red Fang I don't think that the Ghia would have kept up as well volume wise. That speaker is a fantastic live speaker and having a few more decibels over the V30 had to help I figure.
That Bogner has an amazing tone and beautiful low end grunt ... really awesome sounding, he was using a Skinpimp Not of This World Fuzz which also is disgustingly awesome sounding.
Tonally the Ghia was a little leaner probably because of the 1x10 vs 12" and also the amp design, I mean the low end on the Bogner made me jealous, just heavenly. But the thing with the Ghia to me was that if I didn't get into a pissing match with the amps, that the Ghia just sat in the mix perfectly. When the time came for me to take some solo's the single notes where simply stunning sounding even with the guitar volume around 7. The neck pickup on 10 has some fuzz qualities about it that where very pleasing to me. I find at that volume I prefer using the bridge pickup with the volume down some for rhythm clarity and then I can ride the volume for solos IF needed, but the neck pickup is just fat and nasty soulful when it gets a chance.
Because his rig had so much low end I kept on the bridge a little more and my guitar volume down to keep clarity between the two rigs. I've worked really hard since owning the Ghia to learn how to use just my guitar and amp to do what I want musically and I think I'm finally getting there ! I never really miss pedals when playing with other guitarist or bass players, but I'm finally learning how to just use my hands and knobs to get what I want. In that area the Ghia is superb and loved it.
That said-I also figured his amp had more low end because of the wattage 30 vs 18 - What say you all and what Z has nasty think low end that makes you innards quiver with joy?
Peace my brothers....it's been a pretty hard week for a lot of us, let's just try to put into strings and let those Z's ring.

Go GHIA!!!!!!!! I am much more of a 12" speaker fan. They just seem made for guitars. Well I love the 1x10 combo it's the easiest rig to take places ever...but last night I found out how well the 10" speaker compliments and works with the 12". Kinda like a Tele and Les Paul work so well together. I've been playing alone with just a drummer since last November and so I hadn't heard the Ghia in context with another guitarist. That Bogner sounded sweet, but I'm getting spoiled by the Ghia because I never have to think about the amp settings, and amps with options like a 5 way 'Schitso' switch, bass, treble, mids, gain, volume, master volume Dude I just wanna play guitar But hearing that amp made me think about the Remedy or Therapy or something in the 30 watt range. Something that growls and grumbles. Next time I'll take the Monza too and go stereo - bam take that 30 watt Bogner O wait I'm getting competitive again.

I meant to say tone. And I agree about the Red Fang in the Ghia. It really cut through the mix.

I like how you were working your tone to mix with the other guy and it's cool the Ghia supports that. Most of us probably don't think about how we fit into the mix when playing live. We just get 'our tone' and let everyone else deal. I tweak the stuff up while recording, but don't think about it much when playing live. Now you're giving me something to think about. I agree that the Ghia kind of has it's own space and sits in the mix. Maybe that's why I get away without thinking. I'll have to explain to my wife that my Ghia allows this next time she asks "What were you thinking?". I can say "I wasn't, because I have a Ghia.".
