Hi.
I have a Monza, which I love, but it's the older version that doesn't have a master volume. I have an Airbrake but I don't like it very much because it makes a lot of noise at bedroom level when I am pushing the volume fir overdrive. I know there is an upgrade available so I was wondering whether there was anyone out there who has made the modification who can tell me whether it is worth doing...
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum! A lot of great people and good information here! MV mod is Definitely worth doing. It makes it so much more "family" friendly. I keep mine in the living room to play while the wife watches tv. And it still kills when dialed up! I'd do it again in a second!

stephan, a lot of people consider that "master volume" mod essential to owning a Monza. I, myself, tried a 1×12 combo withOUT the master volume in the local store, and realized I could never tame that beast. I now own a 1×10 combo WITH the master volume and I love it. Quite honestly, that master volume is what makes the Monza great.

The MV mod is Awesome and makes the amp not only incredibly unique but uniquely versatile ! It doesn't just make it better for home use it makes it a go anywhere amp !!

I bought my Monza second hand, w/o out the MV. Thought it would be fine. NOPE. Sent the chassis in for the mod and loved that thing....until I sold it because I am an idiot sometime.
Well worth the cash.

oh yes,,, love it,,, my favorite setting though is the drive and tone pulled back left of n00n, dime the master and set the volume at 9 or so,, i get nice headroom and great blues tone,no pedal required,, sean thinks he is an idiot,, lol, my first rt 66 i had NO idea how the bass and treb worked, took me forever to figure out how to get a clean tone out of it,, man that was ages ago.,,

I added MV to my Monza. WOW. Interesting observation I have made: I compared my retro-fitted Monza to one with stock MV and while both sounded GRRRREAT, to MY ears, the retro-fit was a bit more pleasing. Anyone else care to comment?

^^^ might be with the MV you are not getting as much power tube distortion. Some like it and others dont

the Monza without MV sounds unbelievable but..yes it is a beast... the MV makes it much more versatile but it costs just a tiny little bit of sound... personally I would do the mod

I've got a Hammond Ghia as well as a recent Z Ghia, and I'm expecting a Monza any day now. I thought I read somewhere official that the MV is disengaged when turned all the way up. True or false? If so, does anyone know if that sounds any different from the pre-PPIMV version? BTW, my Hammond conversion sounds almost identical to Doc's, but its little springier in a vintagey kinda way. Anyway, I've gone from taste-testing the Ghia clone to a real Ghia to the Monza, just in the past few months. Guess that makes me a Z fan!

My monZa had the master added after. It's on the back panel. It's a must have in my opinion. You have to be playing wrigley field to get to the best overdrive sounds without it. The master mod has does not affect the tone. I love having it.

i just got mine back from my home in another state,, i have been without it for several months,, i have had an EV12L original in it, but it is way too heavy, so i put a 50 watt blues pearl (eminence) speaker that is way broken in, like 15 years broken in,,i sent mine back for the master on front, it is an all powerful head turning amp. i get accolades all the time with a tele, from other players. i love pushing the drive back and low on the volume, tone dimed,,great blues sounds. i have those high grade el84s in it, but it sounds great with any el84s. i also have a beam blocker in mine. it is a room filling amp.....
