Hey guys, I was wondering what the going rate was for a used 1×12 Ghia combo? From all I can see it looks to be in mint condition. Thanks in advance!

I'm not so sure of the age? It is the non-racing stripe face plate.

Do you have serial number? The letter in the serial number determines what year it was made in.

I just saw two different heads go for less than 800 on Ebay. If you are patient you can find great prices on them.

Thanks guys. This would be my first Z. So $800 would be a pretty good price for a combo?

The serial number starts with a J. From what I have read online that makes it a 1999. Is that correct?

The serial number starts with a J. From what I have read online that makes it a 1999. Is that correct? It is from 1999 - the other numbers are which Ghia it is. For example if the serial number ended in 254, it would be the 254th Ghia made.

It came with a Warehouse G12C 75 watt speaker. I have a Celestion G12H 30 watt speaker I could swap out. Does the Ghia really need a 75 watt speaker?

With an 18 watt amp, what matters is tone, power handling...not so much. Using a 75 watt speaker is fine...you don't need all that extra power, but if the tone is something you like, then it's the right speaker for you. The WGS is a clone of a Jensen C12n. I don't have any experience with that speaker. But I do have experience with the G12H30. If you play alone at home, or record, the H will be fine, but if you play with a band, I would not recommend the H with the Ghia. It has big bass, recessed mids and crispy highs. And it will be a LOT louder than the WGS speaker.
Personally, I would give the WGS a good long listen before swapping it out.

Thanks John. I just picked it up last night so I will definitely give the Warehouse speaker a fare shot.

I have noticed that my Paisley Drive doesn't work well with the Carmen Ghia as it does with my Bassman. But using the Ghia on the edge of breakup with the Plexi-drive sounds amazing! Just curious....why is it that most tube amps have an on and standby switch, as where the Ghia has only an on switch?

I believe there's no standby b/c the inrushing current isn't so high as to cause premature failure of the heaters in the EL84s. In other words she doesn't need to heat up to run. The 5Y3 rectifier has a slow warm up rate IIRC.

I played my first gig with the Ghia this past weekend...what an incredible little amp!! I had several compliments on my tone from other musicians in the crowd. I got away with running the volume just shy of 12:00 and it was still fairly clean. I have read that some guy's Ghias break up at 10-11:00. I guess the 75 watt speaker has a little something to do with it?

Glad the amp sounded good.
A 75 watt speaker will normally not break up with only an 18 watt amp. But there are lots of other factors...such as guitar pickups. Did you use the WGS (jensen clone) for the gig?

Yeah, I used the WGS speaker. My tele has a set of Seymour Duncan vintage stack single coils. I ran a Wampler Plexi-drive for the overdrive tones. I have a couple of cabs with Celestion v30's....I may put one of those in and give it a go. I honestly have no complaints with the Ghia staying clean, but I'm dyin to hear it's natural od!

Another thing you might want to consider is a Brakelite. That will allow you to run the volume knobbie up and keep the overall output manageable. The Ghia is a LOUD 18 watts which is one reason some of the guys here recommend a lower efficiency speaker.

The guy I bought it from said he has changed the tubes. He may have replaced the set to allow for more head room?

JJ 5y3 This is the correct tube compliment per Doc Z, which if you are ever curious, on the Dr Z website he has all the amps and their tube compliment listed under the support area. I'd guess the green letter 5751 is what they say is a JAN 5751 NOS tube prolly. The Ghia really is my favorite amp ever so far. It's my Therapy
