This is my dilemma: thought I was getting a used Z convertible 1x12 from a relatively close shop at a great price. Then, the emailed after I purchased online, to tell me that it was actually a Z 2x10 convertible cab. They've offered to refund my money, if I so choose, but I wanted to ask you fine folks here: For someone who plays rock/post-rock (think Radiohead, Bon Iver, Beck's rockier moments, St. Vincent, and the edgier stuff from U2, Coldplay, etc.), who wants to be able to be smooth, edgy/punchy, ambient, and shredded/fuzzed out, depending on the moment... what would you think the 1x12 Z (with either V30 or G12H30 in it) vs the 2x10 Z (with Z 10s in it) cabs would impart to the sound? Mind you, I've also got an original '64 Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb as my other amplifier. My Maz 38 is a Reverb, and is from 2001. Neither is the primary over the other. Used a crappy salvaged cab with a V30 in it hitherto, which I've now traded for other gear. (Also, I know there are a few threads on here comparing... but still wanted to see what a sampling of current current users, asking their thoughts about this choice, would be helpful. Sorry for the redundancy, if that offends any.) Thoughts? I know the cab might not make THAT much difference... but still, I'd like to know. (Also, for those interested or wanting something to hear before answering, here's my soundcloud page: soundcloud.com/paulsebastian)Thanks again, kind folk of Z-Talk!

I don't know about the Maz .... with my Ghia or Monza I just notice more low end in the 12, but I love the 2x10 tone ....it just seems right for the 'guitar' frequencies and leaves good space for the bass. I'm no speaker guru either but I traded out the Z 10's for Eminence legends, and I may have lost some volume and high end but that's exactly what I was wanting. 2 10's is technically more surface space than a 12", hmmmmmmmmm what else. I think I prefer the 2x10's to 1x12.
hope a MAZ-er stops by to contribute.
have fun

I personally love the 2X10. I don't find it lacking in bass whatsoever. Close to 40 years of playing has been into 12's (8x, 4x, 2x, 1x). I am finding I'm liking doc's 2x10's more over the past 10 years. Admittedly I do have a Z-Best which is a different animal, but my MAZ gets the 10's. I'd say go with the 2x10 and if you desire a 1x12 pick up a convertible cabinet and run both. I ran a 2x10 convertible with my 2x10 combo and the extra speaker real estate was way cool. I'm sure you would experience the same adding a 1x12 to the mix. Best of both worlds.

You already have a 1x12 with the Deluxe Reverb...why not try something new?
Doc's 2x10 cabs/speakers sound great...LOUD, but great!
