I already have a NIB Blue, but I hate to unbox and mount it if I'm eventually gonna have to get a Gold anyway. I'd be better off selling it as new. So, how bad is the low flub in a Jr. with reverb? I know it's subjective but is it as bad say as a Princeton Reverb?
I like it loud, but not with a lot of distortion. Maybe just a little hair on the cleans. I don't use any pedals except occasionally a FD clean boost, which probably won't be necessary with this amp. I only play lower output PAF-ish humbuckers and P90s. I'm currently running with a Tonker in my Z shorty 1x12 and like it, but I do miss that Alnico sparkle. I guess if I'm going to have to bite the bullet on a Gold I might as well do it now.
In an unrelated question, I also have a NIB G12H30 Heritage edition 55hz 12"er. Any thoughts on that speaker in a Jr.?

My Maz combo originally came with a Blue and my problem with it had nothing to do with flub. I have not played a Princeton reverb wnough to compare but the Maz\Blue didn't fart out in the bass anywhere near the amount of any 6V6 (and some 6L6) based blackface Fenders I have played. That said, I preferred the Gold over the Blue in the Maz and my favorite speaker in the Maz was a 50 watt ceramic Silver Bell. Not sure how similar that speaker is to the G12H30.

No flub with the Blue in my Maz Jr. It's a great choice and I like it even more than the Gold in this amp as, to my ears, it doesn't have the "honk" I hear in that speaker. As for the G12H: do yourself a huge favor and pair the baby with the Blue. This combo happens to be my gigging set-up and to my ears it's glorious. Give it a shot; you can thank me later...

I like the blue in the Maz and the gold is nice to. I can tell you that the blue is going to blow away that tonker. I've tried those 3 and an EV SRO,WGS blackhawk hp, reaper hp, and g12h30. IMO the blue is what I like but I can see a gold too.

I had to replace my blue with a gold, the blue's low end was too loose sounding at volume for me, I play a lot of boogie bass line riffs and need tight clear lows. Beautiful warm top end with the blue though, pairing it with another speaker is a great option.
Very happy with the gold it continues to get better and better.

My first Z amp was a Maz Jr NR combo with a blue and when pushed the low end became too flabby for my tastes. I like the low end tighter. Back then, I didn't understand the impact of different speakers with amps. The gold and blue sound very similar with the gold providing a much tighter bottom end. When not pushed so hard I think the blue sounds a bit sweeter, giving up the goods sooner too. But for me I just didn't like that loose low end.
I have a 2x12 Z open back cab that came with blues and I tried that config for a while, but when pushed they didn't hold up as I would like, especially when when I used a boost pedal for solos. I use in ear monitors so I can really hear what the speakers are doing. I ended up swapping out for 2 golds, then now my current config of one gold and one G12H-75 creamback. Sounds great.

It'll definitely flub when cranked but I felt that you have to have the amp turned up quite a bit to get it to do so. I bought mine with the Gold and it's great but I bought a Blue for an amp cab I have and I took the two and swapped them just to compare. The Blue was much tighter in the attack and seemed almost more lively to what I played. (No doubt the wattage difference) For me, the Gold won out for having a more rounded sound and I liked the way it sounded when the amp was cranked up a bit. However, I would not select the Gold over the Blue unless I could get the master cranked and the volume above 9 o'clock. That was where the Gold beat the a Blue for me. Below that, the Blue sounded better to my ears.
Also, I should add that I have underwound PAF style pickups as well. If I had funds and could get a 2 x 12" cabinet, I'd run both and be done with it. Maybe one of these days.

Blue + G12H30 is heaven. But the blue by itself is great too!

The blue is nice if you don't push it. But, you have to push it quite a bit to get it to flub out. I've been trying out the WGS Blachawk 50 and it sounds great as well. It's very close to the Blue and Gold and has a tighter low end like the gold. It's been a while since I had the gold but I think I like the blackhawk by a slight margin. Maybe I should try one again...
