I'm planning on having some time this winter and I thought I'd try to build a simple amp kit, like a Ceriatone 20 watt bass/lead (Marshall 2061) head. I can solder and I can read instructions, but I've never worked on an amp by myself. I've rewired guitars, but that's a whole different animal.
Is jumping into an amp kit like this a little too much for a first project?

How about doing a pedal kit as a warm up?

I just looked at their Web Site and it states that "no technical support will be given". I would think twice before I bought anything from a company like that. I built a 5E3 clone from Mojotone about 14 years ago and the instructions were clear and complete. Allen Amplification has good support and some nice sounding high quality kits but they are all Fender based. Whatever you decide to build, take a look inside other good tube amps first for examples of proper lead dress. I also like to form the filter caps before I power them up to full voltage. A good book for beginners is 'Inside Tube Amps' by Dan Torres.

Check out Trinityamps.com. Super support both from the main man and the forum. Start with the 5E3 Tweed, or the Tramp..a Champ based unit with a couple of extras. I have a Tramp and a now discontinued 1974x clone; both really do the job. Pm me if you want some photos.

Good input, guys. I thought about trying a pedal or one of the simple Weber kits first, but I figured there's a ton of knowledge on the Z Forum and I'd ask for your input. I'm going to check out all of the suggestions you've made. Thanks!
