My buddies and I have an out door gig coming up. I haven't played outside in a very long time so I hope my Z pals will go easy on me if I seem a little uninformed. I plan on using my 100w Marshall DSL and the two cabinets I own are a Z best with two 30w 12's in it and a Z 2x10 with 70w Z 10's in it. Now normally I use my Z Best with the DSL in doors with no prob because I take it easy on it volume wise. At the out door gig we wont be playing through a PA as it's only a small carnival so volume won't be to to loud. Having said that I still think I had better use the higher watt 2x10's. My question is will the 2x10 cabinet keep up? I would feel better if it was a 4x10 but not an option at this time. The other guitar player plays a 60w amp through a 4x10 cabinet and we have a drummer and bass player as well. I believe the Z 2x10 with the back closed will be loud enough but I could use some opinions from some who have played out doors enough to know. Thanks.

I've managed a couple of outdoor gigs with my 2x10 Maz 18. Having said that my go to now for the outdoors is my RT66 and my Z-Best. I like the closed back outdoors, so I'm projecting sound forward. Our band has a good handle on volume which helps. We have two outdoor gigs next weekend, but they're in a tent, so I may give my 2x10 convertible a run. I wonder what your Z-Best and 2x10 would sound like.

The 2x10 will obviously and pleasantly surprise you. Play with the Gain and Master, and as Roscoe sez: "Put it one the floor and let it roar!"

I'm sure your 2x10" cab will keep up well and punch through nicely; a while ago I admit, but I used an old 2x10" blonde Fender cab in a similar situation and it was fine. But, it has to be said that any decent on stage mix is only as good as the monitoring you're getting. So the key to this is blagging some wedges (if they're not being provided) and letting you and your band mates hear themselves. Sound outside just evaporates...

Gig was Saturday night. My fear that 2x10's wouldn't keep up were put to rest right away. Plenty of volume was coming out of the Z 2x10(same one in my avatar).

Saw your post too late to chime in on the advice end. I've used my JAZ 2x10 combo in situations such as you described, and it was more the adequate.
Glad you got the same happy outcome.
