Is anyone using this setup? I'm interested in a 1x10 cabinet to go with my 25th anniversary ghia, as I'm not totally happy with the sound of my 1x12 with a cream back. I love it with the antidote, but it's not working for me with the ghia... I see that Doc's 1x10 comes with this speaker, of which I know nothing. Anyone?

The Ghia is a fantastic amp, and the Ramrod is a fine speaker. At this point, it's up to your ears.
What didn't you like about the Creamback? Was it Creamback M or H? If you like it with the Antidote, I bet it's an "M".

Just a couple days ago I ran my Ghia through the Ramrod in a 1x10 Z-cab. Actually, I was A/B'ing it vs. the G10 Greenback to see which I liked best (with both the Ghia and the Monza). Although I think the Ramrod's bold, aggressive nature suits the Monza very well, I liked the Ghia better through the G10 Greenback ("honorable mention" to the Ramrod, though).
The Ramrod is very loud & bold... pretty similar to the Red Fang 10 except that the Ramrod's highs are a tad darker and its mids are more controlled. It's more "Vintage 30 or Governor" than "AlNiCo Celestion" like the Red Fang. Very big & loud speaker, though--the Ramrod is the first 10" speaker that I've tried that legitimately could be confused for a 12" speaker. Also, it's very loud (efficient); whereas the G10 Greenback is rather quiet (inefficient).
Was there anything in particular you didn't like about the Creamback with the Ghia? [You're talking about the G12M Creamback, not the bigger-magnet G12H Creamback, right?] I personally love the G10 Greenback, but it's such a dead-on sonic match for the G12M Greenback that I wouldn't recommend it to you if you didn't like the G12M Creamback (which is also near-exact sonically to the G12M Greenback). I'd suggest for you a Celestion G10 Gold or Weber Silver Ten (I have one of these on its way).

It's a G12M, 65 watt, yes. There's just something about it, where it almost compresses too much, and is a bit mid-heavy, which doesn't make a lot of sense, since I like it so much with the Antidote... I do recall liking the ghia with a well worn vintage 30, and with Doc's 10's as well. Maybe it's efficiency I'm after? I may try the ramrod, as I want a small cab for it, and I can always replace it. The cream back is too good with the Antidote to give up:)

Could be the compression, perhaps. The small-magnet "M" Greenback's & Creamback's (the 12" and 10" ones) definitely have a squishy volume-limiting compression to them. The Ramrod does not; it's quite loud (efficient) with just a hint more "chime" than those particular Celestions, and more "in-your-face."

Thanks, Mark... I may try it. The 1x10 cab makes a lot of sense for me. Cheers!

I've been playing mine with ramrods they are darker than the z design 10" but in a smooth way. They can get really loud too. I think the best sound you'll get it with an alnico speaker. My favorite combination not for playing live is the 25annie Ghia with a weber 1x8 vintage series taweber.powweb.com/weber/8a125t.htmBeautiful.

I really like the Eminence Legend 10516....I use a 2x10 cab. good luck on the search.
