Anyone here using an Xotic EP booster with your KT45? I saw a post on some other forum where a guy claims, for some reason unknown, the EP doesn't play nicely with an EF86 front end. Anyone using one, or opinions on this booster with a KT45? Thanks!

I just got a KT the other but haven't tried my EP with it. I'll give it a go sometime this week or weekend and let you knows thoughts. Though my initial thought is that anything and everything plays well with the KT-45.

Well I gave the EP a go with both my Strat and Les Paul. I had no issues at all. Since the KT has so much headroom it doesn't saturate the front end immediately but it sounded fine on the LP (with hotter than normal pickups) and really good with my Strat. It fattened the tone up, added some nice clarity to the high end and provided a lot of boost just as it should have.

I'm the guy that made the claim about the EP booster. It made my KT45 make a weird sound. But I ran my KT 45 with the volume very high, so that may account for some differences in experience. I don't know why this was, but the amp had no problems with any other pedals; just the EP Booster. It sounded like a speaker was blown or something (though it's been well over a year, so I may not be remembering correctly)with the EP Booster engaged.

I used an ep booster with my Route 66. Just fattened up the sound a bit.
A microphonic ef86 will make all kinds of weird noises. Especially when you hit it hard with a pedal.

I agree, but it was odd, I could find no other way to get the amp to make this noise other than when the EP was plugged in and on. I tapped on the EF86; I believe I even bought a NOS one and replaced it. It made no difference. Weird, maybe there just happened to be some sort of sympathetic vibration that was touched off by the specific components of my amp, pedals, cords, etc. It was a great sounding KT45, that's for sure.

I use my EP with a Route 66 and a Z-28 with no issue but they are not the KT 45. I did have a problem with the Z-28 making unusual noise(before I had the EP)with certain notes from certain guitars. Turned out to be a power tube.

Well, I've been around the block with EP type boosts into my Dr Z KT45. I've used the Xotic, the Dunlop, and the ClinchFX. I like the Dunlop and the Clinchfx a lot, but am heading back to the Xotic at this point. Who knows what I'll be using next week?
