Hey everyone,
So I just got my Carmen Ghia combo with a Celestion Blue and Brake Lite a few weeks ago. I've been gigging a lot (4-5 days a week)...but I treat this thing like it's my own child.
As of last night, whenever I use a higher gain setting, the amp starts to cut out (as in loses all sound). At first I thought it was my pedals.
But the today I did a test and ran my guitars directly into the amp...multiple guitars, multiple cables...and same result.
I tried bypassing the Brake Lite...same thing.
Any help would be amazing. I love this amp and am dreading having to go back to my Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue for gigging.

Check your speaker connections , if one of those little push-on connectors is loose it can cause this. Also could be power tube(s). Even new out of the box tubes can be bad anymore.

Make sure the clips that hold the power tubes are snug and are holding onto the pins. Or a need for new tubes. See if you can pop a new set in and see what happens.

higher gain as in pedals or amp setting? both...at first it was with my pedals...my high gain distortions and fuzz... with the volume around 10 o' clock...Brake Lite on 3 but then when I went to troubleshoot the problem, I went guitar straight into amp with the volume around 4 o' clock...Brake Lite on any setting or bypassed...and had the same problem

I checked all the tube connections and everything seems real snug. I'm taking it with me to the store where I got it to troubleshoot some more and try some different tubes.

I'm pretty sure a new tube or two and your problem will go away 4 or 5 gigs a week? Very nice! Todd

So it was definitely the power tubes.
Took it back to Jesse at J&E Guitars, where I got it, here in Vegas.
Showed him the problem.
Jesse called up the good Dr. himself.
We plug in some new power tubes and PRESTO! Problem solved.
Needless to say, I am now carrying back-up tubes, just in case.
Thanks to everyone that replied to my plea for help.

Glad to hear it was just the power tubes.

cool. I've never had the amp just go silent...usually with my power tube failure it was more like crackle crackle pop ! Also good to have a couple fuses. I always have a full compliment of tubes for the just in case moment in my LP case. Rock on Wookie Man ? That avatar man....

Where would be the best place to find extra fuses for the Ghia...just in case You can get 'em online at Mouser, Mojotone, TubeDepot, PartsExpress, Hoffman Amps, Weber, etc... and offline at Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowe's, Menard's, (insert your local mom & pop hardware store here), etc. But have I done so? Nope. Should I? Yup. It ain't like they're expensive or anything. Probably a good idea to have 2-3 spares for each type that my amps use. If your Ghia is somewhat new and like mine (I can't speak for the older ones), it takes a 3AG-type (1-1/4" × 1/4"), Slow-Blow, 1 A fuse. I dig your dog beard too, man. It's kinda freakin' me out, though.

Just finished my first gig after the fix.
Everything went super smooth.
I will say, there is a huge difference in tone with the JJ EL84's I have in there compared to the EHX EL84's that came with the amp.
Different...not bad in any way...just different.

Revalved my Ghia 25th with Tube Amp Doctor EL84STRs, and I have to say they're a discernible cut above the JJs in my view; check out the Corey Hicks Ghia demos on YouTube - they do a before and after demo with the TADs, and I have to say they do sound smoother to my old ears...

I will definitely take a listen...the shop threw the JJ's in for free on the good Dr.'s orders. Tomorrow I will be spending some time testing out the NOS 5751s and 5Y3s that I just ordered.

Sounds like fun. I'll be tuning in for the data collected. I've never tried anything besides the JJ's...what did you hear different than the EHX?

Sounds like fun. I'll be tuning in for the data collected. I've never tried anything besides the JJ's...what did you hear different than the EHX? Well right away it seems like the JJ's start to break up earlier and have a bit more sparkle on the high end. I had been running the tone on the EHX's at around 12...the JJ's seem happier around 1:30 or 2.
