I'm a UK mazerati head owner. I've not had it long but want to get a quad of EL84s for spares. I'm quite happy with the sound of the stock tubes, and like lots of clean headroom and volume. As the amp is self biasing, I'm happy to change the tubes myself, and am wondering the reliable places in the UK to buy tubes from. Any suggestions?
I've found a few places in the UK selling Groove Tube EL84-S, but I'm a bit confused about them, as the Groove Tubes site seems slight contradictory on these tubes. On the one hand it says: "New European version with even more response, higher power and warmer tone.", but then it also says: "Quick, soft overdrive distortion, great for recording but usually too low volume for live gigs."
So, are they higher power or not?!
