So I'm thinking of buying a 1x10 cab for my Ghia. Currently it is a 12 combo with the V30, but I really want a grab and go, small amp for church gigs and traveling when space is tight. I hope that converting my Ghia will do the trick, but I'm a little hesitant. Anyone have experience with the conversion? I love the CG sound, and am not looking to change that, really I just want a physically smaller amp. I think I would stick with the ramrod speaker to start, and would probably throw a brake lite in as well.
Thoughts? The other option I'm considering is to just wait a bit for the funds to buy either an M12 or Z28 1x10 combo.

If you are going to buy another amp soon then I would wait. Have you thought about a studio cab? Roscoe had a small cab made for his ghia if I remember correctly. I forget who made it but it looked real nice. Good luck on your choice!

I had a 1x10 with the stock ramrod for a while and liked it a lot with the z-28, sounded good not great with the ghia but I was also comparing it with a well broken in celestion blue, which added a lot of character. Many people like the ghia with the 10" red fang but I have no experience with that.

If you're used to the volume & tone of the Vintage 30 and don't really want to change that too much, then I'd suggest the Red Fang 10 speaker in the smaller combo. Those things are quite loud; perhaps that would be closest to what you have now, just physically smaller.

Others tried going the smaller 1X12 route but wound up going back to the 1X10/RF combo. It really does sound every bit as good as a 12", plenty of bottom end too that doesn't mush out.

I had never owned a 1x10 amp. Or any other amp that had 10" speakers. Then a deal on a 1x10 Ghia combo dropped in my lap.
It's the ultimate small club amp. Small, lightweight, sounds great. I took the Red Fang out and replaced it with a gold, but there are many who like the fang.
I remember having to walk about 400+ yards to my car after a gig. I really appreciated the 1x10 combo. Fits in/out of the car better. If you put the 10" speaker up against a 12...yes, you'll hear a little difference, but if you hear one alone, you'd never be able to tell which is which.
Now, moving away from a V30...you'll have a big sonic difference. For what's supposed to be a smaller and lower volume amp, the fang was just too loud for me.

After the custom cab I went back to the 10" red fang. Perfect for me. Both knobs around noon. No attenuator.

Well thanks for the input guys. I think I need to look harder at the speaker choices and probably spring for the red fang. I love my CG, I just want it in a smaller package. I think putting it in the 10 cab will work for me. Appreciate the replies.

I am in process of making a Ghia head cab into a 1x10 with the RF as well. But if you can hold out the Z28 is a really nice amp too. It is next on my list.
