If one doesn't like the Gold that comes in the Z-wreck...what would be something else to try? Creamback maybe??? G12H30?

So no response means that nobody has tried any other speakers with this amp? Is the gold just that good in the combo??? What if you prefer ceramic speaker to alnico speakers? What is the closest to the Gold?

I don't have a Z-wreck, but I have lots of speakers... I can tell you that if you don't like the Gold, you might as well stay away from the G12H-30. Very similar "hi-fi, big lows & highs" from both of those speakers. However I think that the lack of response here is probably because people do like the Gold so much.
General speaker recommendations can be tough because of personal preferences and all.. but is there something about the Gold that you specifically don't like, or is there a different sound/style that you're aiming for? That might help in formulating some suggestions for you.

I like ceramics better than alnico too. A weber silver bell sounds great. Really didn't like the H. M for me was meh. Vintage 30 was good alone and worked well in a 212 with the H.

I tried the gold in my Maz 18 and I guess I just prefer ceramic speakers. The gold sounded...I guess hollow is a good word for it. Ended up selling the speaker. I play in a cover band that plays mostly 70's-90's country with some old rock thrown in. So country is the basis...but my experience with the gold in the Maz has me worried about the gold in a Wreck. Maybe I should just give one a whirl.

Have you tried the Wreck with the Gold? Doc puts a ton of time into his speaker selection. I wouldn't discount it because it didn't work w your Maz.

Not yet...but I guess I need to. And I agree about the Doc's speaker selection. I tried several speakers with my RxJr and then I put a Greenback in and ...boom... perfect match. So I guess I should try it.

^^^ I can't imagine anyone not liking the Gold with the Z Wreck. When I had my first run set, I seriously thought about pulling the Blue and going double Gold. I eventually sold that set, bought a head and two 1-12 Z cabs with Golds......yeahhhhh! That's what I'm twalkin' about!!
The Gold in the combo is just perfect!

I kept the Gold and paired it with a 30wt Weber Alnico Blue Dog... Also tried it with just the Weber in a 1x12 cab. I like the Gold better, it doesn't sound as broken up at high volumes.

I got to use my Wreck last weekend...but haven't really gotten to play on it to set my guitar and board up with it. I am playing an outdoor show tomorrow and will have a chance to work on setting it up for me. I like outdoors...you can turn up.

I played my Zwreck through other cabs (with 2 Scumbacks PVC, with 2 Creambacks). I never tried only one Gold as in the combo. But the original Zwreck Cab is for me by far the best for the amp. Yeah, as said above the Doc put a lot of attention in speaker selection...

Just today, I plugged my Z Wreck into my isolation cab...it's loaded with an Eminence Governor. It sounded mighty fine to me.
I suppose to do an accurate comparison though, I'd have to try the Governor in the combo, as well as the Gold in the ISO cab...just to account for the differences in cabinet material, and construction.
Still, hard to disagree with the Doc's choice of the Gold for the combo. It really gives up the goods.
Ciao fo' now...
