My rectifier tube in my ghia has a bit of jingle. At higher volumes on certain notes I can here the vibration; and when removed and shaken in can hear it. As if something has broken loose and is moving around (like a blown light bulb). The amp appears to be working fine though. Is this something i should be worrying about? Do I need to replace it asap? Could this cause serious damage to the amp with continued use? Thanks. Jason

I'd replace it and keep this one as a temporary backup. I'd label it as such with a sharpie.

This is getting frustrated. I went a picked up a new Sovtek 5y3, when i got it home I see that it too had filament rattle... and didnt sound as good BTW. So I ordered a NOS Mazda, it gets here today and it too has filament rattle? What the heck is going on?

I suspect EL84's, or pre amp tubes. The EL84's tend to get rattley quick with use. How are you checking for rattle in the new rectifier?

Lefty: Just giving the tube a little shake makes an audible rattle.
Thanks Myles, i might look into that heavy-duty 5y3, might be what I need. But before i try any more rectifiers im gonna rule out other tubes as Lefty has suggested, and I suppose check other parts for rattle. THanks for the help guys. Jason

I have those too, and they do work to some extent. I have them on my Ghia and Maz.

I think the tubes rings work pretty well for the EL 84 rattle. I'm not so convinced about the sound benefits, though.
For 5y3 rectifiers, Mazda, Bendix, RCA and JAN are all very good. I have one of each, and found them all very quiet (no rattle)
