I have a few speakers just laying around all sound real good with the Ghia, I was ready to put my V30 back in but thought I'd try one more.. I was amazingly surprised how good the Eminence Cannabis Rex sounded... I think I may Keep it in the single 12 Z cab I have for a while. It was very clean and didn't breakup as quickly as some of the other speakers I have tried in it...

I have a C-Rex that I've tried in a few amps. Always sounds good. With a Sensitivity of 103dbs, it's a great way to get more head room from a low watt amp.

Hmmm... I have one laying around too. Now you've got me thinking. Some people say it's "dark"--have you noticed any loss of high end?

The Crex is a nice speaker, and it is pretty even hi to low. Regarding the highs the hemp cone rounds them off a little. Also in general the hemp makes everything sound thicker in a good way. It is hard to describe. I have a little Ampeg J20 that was a little spikey on the high end. Mostly because it had a V30 clone in it. Anyway, put in a Crex last year and it was a perfect match, for my ears. It sounded great right out of the box.
A lot of telecaster players put a Crex in their Blues Jr to round off the highs as well. I think the Crex is a good match with just about any amp with el84's. But it is very much a matter of personal taste. Blues and Jazz players generally tend to prefer the Crex.
Just for reference since it is hard to describe a speaker sound... I am not a fan of a V30 style speaker or a G12H30 style speaker. Especially the Celestions (sorry...). They are just too shrill on the high end for me. I do like the Crex obviously, and I like alnico speakers in general better than ceramic. Alnico adds a little natural compression to the mix which appeals to me. I also like Greenbacks.
What you won't get from a Crex is any natural distortion from the speaker cone. it is the nature of the hemp fiber which is much stronger than paper.
Hope that helps.
Thanks, Gray
