;DWow what a difference. Now it sounds like what I dreamed and read about from others. Appairanly the 1st or 2nd owner pulled V2 and put in a 12AX7A instead of another ECC83 to work with V1. My 63 Strat and my Nashville Tele just sing. I can't thank you enough for guiding me through

The Svetlana 12AX7s in V1 and V2 are, to my ears, a big improvement over the ECC83s. Doc originally suggested this and it fattens up the amp, makes it less piercing and the highs get so creamy. These are the Svets from New Sensor, (SEDs I think) not the winged Cs. Highly recommended.

5751's in V1/V2 will also smooth the high end, and to my ear are very warm and smooth sounding. A huge improvement over the JJ ECC83's. They were too harsh and gainy for me.

thanks garyh. Sounds like a plan. Where did you purchase yours? Just looked on a few of the sponsored tube suppliers on the top of the page for svets and didn't see any. guess I need to dig deeper but at the same time is New Sensor or SEDs a company or stand for something and does winged C's mean winged cathode. forgive my lack of knowledge on this stuff but I'm learning as I go.

Bought them at New Sensor. Do a search for them in Google. Apparently, they are not true Svetlanas but come in Svetlana boxes. The one's with a "winged C" logo are the real ones but these at New Sensor are the one's Doc was referring to. They really work magic IMHO. I was disappointed with my Maz until I installed these. They sound just beautiful. Best amp I've ever heard now.
On the downside, at New Sensor they gave a minimum order of $75 though. I ordered a couple of power tubes along with them.

Hey Gary , was wondering how the Svet's compared to others you tried ? Did you try any NOS , EH ,Tungsol or any others ? Did they come close ?? Just wondering if I should try some Svet's too .

just googled New Sensor. Their actual site was a wholesale only and listed as www, sovtek but the one just below it was www.turnstyle and on the home page of tube choices you could click on svet lana brand. The 12AX7 listed said 12AX7SV and was a small picture so I couldn't read anything printed on it . Got a feeling it may be the wrong site. Didn't mention anything about minimum orders either but maybe that doesn't come up until you add to cart? Does any of that sound familiar?

I don't think that site is wholesale only. There is a box in the upper right hand corner for wholesalers to log in but I believe you can order from the catalog. While I get onto the main page, I can't access any other pages from there because I'm at work (Forbidden by Ratings Check). This does look like the site where I ordered them from, however. They were fairly expensive, about $17 each.
I haven't tried other tubes with my Maz. I've been putting my money into guitars (2) and pedals (10) in the past year. I'd love to try some more at some point. There's lots of info here on this site from folks who have tried other tubes with great and not so great success. I went with the Doc's suggestion early on and have been quite happy with the Svets. I'd eventually like to try some NOS, the GT 12AX7M and the ECC803s but not for awhile.....have to pay for my pedals first.
Best of luck with this.

Gary Your right. It was late and as soon as I saw the wholesale log in I made a wrong assumption without reading further. Anyway I was able to go to a svetlana page and ordered the 12AX7SV. By the way, on the minimum order deal it looks like they backed it off to 50. bucks so I ordered 3 and called it a day. Couldn't hurt to have a spare. Thanks for your help

I'm looking forward to trying some out in my Maz and some of my other amps too but my problem seems to be finding the time during the summer plus i'm back at the University where I work getting set for the onslaught of students Tubes do add up $$ wise and I can attest to thet as I have built up a pretty big collection in the past year and still looking . It's fun trying tubes out and sort of like playing with the engine in your hot rod trying to get it to run just a wee bit better !
