Around 2 months ago, I went to turn on my amp only to find I had no power. When I checked the fuse in the back it was blown. It turns out I needed some new tubes. I replaced the 3 tubes in the back, starting with the main 2 power tubes, I was still blowing a fuse, so I replaced the other as well. The guy who does amp work for the store said the tubes would be good unbiased, just put them in. However the tech at the store said these tubes need to be biased or they will run too hot...Who is correct, are their any tubes made specifically for the Ghia.

Last night I was playing, and I lost power again..Who is correct, are their any tubes made specifically for the Ghia. What do you think is going on? First check out the troubleshooting guide on the Dr's home page. www.drzamps.comTo settle the question though is that it does not need to be rebiased. Also info found on the home page. Good luck and welcome to the board!

If you're blowing fuses, the most likely tube culprit would be the rectifier.

Are there any brand of tubes that work better with a Dr. Z. I'm using good tubes, I put Ruby tubes in there...

If you're blowing fuses, the most likely tube culprit would be the rectifier. +1 My opinion: If you blow a fuse, replace power tubes and rectifier tube.

To answer your specific question, it varies all the time. Modern tubes are getting to be a bit of a crap shoot. For that reason, when it comes to the rectifier, you may wish to spend the money on a NOS version. They cost quite a lot more than new manufacture tubes, but they typically last a very long time.

This. I'll add, though, that the last time i looked at NOS 5y3 rectifier tubes, they weren't too much - maybe $25 (quick google search shows more like $35 now). They will last a really long time. Potentially decades.

+1 for the rectifier being the culprit. But a side note, I've had nothing but problems with Ruby tubes. Especially rectifiers, so I avoid those like the plague.

Ruby tube rectifiers have been a problem for me too. I use JJ power tubes and they seem to last forever in the Ghia. If you are blowing fuses , as mentioned check that rectifier. Could be a bad power tube took out something in the amp though too... although I doubt it would work at all. 5Y3 NOS rectifiers are available reasonable. Get one.
