Finally, after tons of talking and and messaging back and forth, I was able to get away and meet up with fellow Z bro Jacques Belanger...We live a couple hours apart...it was just finding the time to get there. Jacques is a talent! An awesome fella to talk to and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to guitars, pedals, amps etc...he's an incredible luthier! My old 52 ri has been in desperate need of a refret and some other work...he took the time to chat with me, ask me all kinds of questions to make sure he understood my needs. It was great!! I am so excited to have it back...which by the way is quick...only a couple days! I have to wait a little longer cause I have to find the time to get back over to get it. Anyway, long story short, if you are in the need of any work, need parts, advice, help, talk to Jacques...he's amazing at his work! Here's a couple pics of what he's been up to...

Yea I'm lucky here too. Scott Baxendale works on my guitars. He's done fret jobs on two of my guitars and some other maintenance work. This man right now has the privilege of working on Elvis's J-200 and I think he's is going to work on the rest of his guitars. I couldn't imagine working on a million dollar guitar. He has also worked on Johnny Cash's instruments and to many more to remember. He makes some nice ones too.

Scott used to work on my guitars when he was in Denver. He does great work. I've used Brian Deckenbach at Del Toro Guitars ever since Scott relocated. Having a trusted luthier close is invaluable. Good to know we have a skilled guy here on the Forum!

I could tell from our conversations here on the forum that Mr. Belanger was the real deal. Sounds like maybe he moved you to the front of the line because you are a member.

We've chatted so many times over the last couple three years...it's crazy! Finally had the chance to go to Moncton for personal reasons rather than business!

Haha Mark! You're putting this up everywhere! lol Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I just wish I lived closer to more of you guys. All the Z guys are wonderful and I'd love to help everyone out..... besides, you guys have all the COOL toys. Actually they're Jescar fretwire. It's all I use. Super consistent quality. All of the top guys (Suhr, Collings etc... ) use it. But size wise, it's equivalent to Dunlop 6105 Jacques.

Nice! I just bought a set of those Stew-Mac radius gauges--they're awesome.

I actually really like those gauges, but I didn't get them from Stew-Mac. Too expensive. Actually, VERY little of my tools come from Stew-Mac... only the stuff I can't make on my own. Like Crowning Files or Nut Files. You should always be suspicious of a Luthier who "raves" about all the Stew-Mac stuff they have. Stew-Mac is just buying/modifying/re-purposing other tools and doubling (or more) the price. If you can't figure out how to do it yourself, you probably don't have enough knowledge to be working on guitars. At least not charging people for it... lol Just remember, if you want to use them to set the string radius at the bridge. Make sure you do it UNDER the strings, not over. The measurements will be thrown off by the size of the strings.

Mark, you know that Leo designed that neck to be removable so you could just get get a new one, right?
Don't you trust the Indonesian luthiers operating the 1-neck-per-second fret installation machine?

Hey Justin...back about a couple years ago, I took my tele to a local shop...the repairman there said he could not replace the frets and that Fender would want the neck destroyed...seriously, this was the line of BS I got. I knew damn well it could be done...it had already been done once to this guitar! I am pretty dumb but not that dumb! ha ha

^^^ I Remember that--what a crazy thing to tell a customer. Sorry, sir--the oil in these cars can't be changed. You'll have to buy a new engine, and Ford will want this one melted down.
