I love my Ghia....But I have a concern... During a 4 hour gig (and outdoor gigs this summer) and since it doesn't have a standby switch, Should I use a clip-on fan behind the head to keep it cooler, Turn it off between sets, just turn the volume down and not worry... Thanks Ken

I gotta ask why?
I've never turned mine off between sets...and well nothing bad has ever happened.
So just curious why not just leave it on?

I can't explain why (Myles Rose, the tube guru who comes on this forum often could tell you)....but the way I understand it, is that for a cathode biased amp, running it without playing is actually harder on the power tubes than playing.

Not that I'd mind a more technical answer...but it would just go over my head for the most part anyway.
That's interesting to know. I've got a few cathode biased amps and that's something I didn't know.
Thanks!

I don't think you gain anything from keeping it on during breaks other than generating heat in the chassis. I turn my off because I don't want it on when a drunk bandmate spills their beer on it. I believe there's a thread on there in which the Doc himself says turn it off during your breaks.

I've never had any problems with heat whilst playing for 3-4 hours straight, but I also turn it off if we do take a 15 min break. Ghia = Awesome.
Have fun

No, i don't think heat will cause any issue with the ghia... especially an open backed combo.... but my 38 watt MAZ does have some heat warpage on the laminated plastic that runs along the backside of the chassis and that is WITH an internal fan running.

If the Ghia needed a stand by switch, Doc would have put one on there. I also turn mine off if I am walking away for 15 minutes. The amp is made to turn on and off like the old time car radios. Great amp, hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
