Heard recently that these are drying up out there in the market.... What's the word?....Thought about picking up a RT.66 again. Thanks, Mark

I wouldn't say they are drying out. They are no longer in production, but you can still get them from KCA NOS tubes and some other online dealers. JJ has said for a few years that they have a new production run of EF86's coming out soon but that is only talk at this point.

JJ has them and they will be tested by us and you and Patrick will be the ones to listen test thm in amps actually. There are also new Sovtek ones that we will be testing too.

Hopefully these ef86 tubes will be as solid as the NOS ones. Looking forward to hearing your report on them.

Fortunately, a good NOS ef, will last thousands of hours!!! In a short period of time, ive already got more ef's than i'll ever use, But its fun to collect them every so often and, experiment with the tonal varieties. Just pick one up here and there, and before you know it you'll have a nice little pile of em! Seriously, these nos ones can last a long , long, time. I just got a Mullard, mesh short plate EF86, from Mike at KCA, for like,... i think $60.00 !! Great deals still to be had. And consider that, that tube alone, could last 10, 15, or ?, years in service with out even blinking. It does seem to be that ef based amps are showing up more now than ever. I hope that demand, doesnt drive the price up on them too high!!
