Hello
Im looking to get an amp to replace my Phaze Corona, I know someone is selling a Dr Z Carmen Ghia, would that be an upgrade from my Corona? I get all my dirta from pedals.
I play mostly at home or in studio, I kept my Phaez Corona 18w @ 9 o'clock constantly. This might give you an idea of the volume I play at.
Would the Ghia be able to stay clean at reasonable loud volume and I let my pedals take care of all the dirts?
Thanks!

Don't let the Ghia's 18 watts fool you. It is a LoUd amp. You get volume up till about 11:00 and the rest is gain. Takes pedals really well. No one ever bought a Ghia and regretted it. Good luck.

It works real nice as a pedal platform as long as the volume is in the 9-10 range, higher and it starts to get hairy, but not really any louder after 11 o'clock or so
I gigged my ghia 1x12 w/vintage 30 last night and had it set at 9:00, used a Timmy and OCD for boost and dirt. even had to knock it down two clicks on the airbrake. It's a loud amp at 9-10 o'clock with an efficient speaker

Nice that sounds promising!
I'm gonna pull the trigger
I have 2 cabs right now 2x12 Greenbacks 1x12 G12H65
Which one would b best match? Or should I get different speakers?

You might consider a Maz 8 if you play at home and studio.
But the ghia is fantastic.

Are you able to try out the head with your cabinets? The best speaker forthe ghia really varies depending on your needs. I'd try out both cabs before swapping speakers and Try the greenbacks first

I use a Ghia as a clean platform…..mine is a 10" combo with a Red Fang speaker (102db?) and it's plenty loud.
Let us know how you like it.

Both of those listed (the head on the left, the combo on the right) are the latest generation of Ghia. They're both known for having a bit cleaner headroom than previous versions. It's the one I have....fantastic amp.
When you ask if "it will stay clean and let your pedals add the dirt"....that's somewhat hard to answer. We don't know how loud you like to play. Will you be right next to a loud bangin' drummer in a small studio? Maybe not...
But if your 18 watt Corona is never above 9:00 you should be fine.
That head is not that great a price.

That combo is a decent price, but that head should be around $900 (or even a touch less)

AHHH!
I went to the link again. when it uploads, it goes straight to the bottom of the page....where there's a head on the left and a combo on the right. (both ghias)
I didn't realize...if I paged up, it took me to the blond head that you are interested in. That model is hard to tell what version it is. Middle of the road. It's not the oldest version, but not the newest. Middle 2000's perhaps. Pre 2011...post 2001. Still, it should be fine. and the price is appropriate. I'd buy it if I were you.
Sorry for the confusion.

There should be a letter in front of those numbers...that's how you can tell the year...
Dr. Z Serial Codes A 1990 B 1991 C 1992 D 1993 E 1994 F 1995 G 1996 H 1997 I 1998 J 1999 K 2000 L 2001 M 2002 N 2003 O 2004 P 2005
etc...

I got my Carmen Ghia The serial number is S.71296 so it's a 2008. It sound very nice, enough headroom for me to use.
now there's 2 things that's bothering me.
1- it's super loud (for me)! I keep it under 8 o'clock to get the sound level I can play comfortably. Anything I can do to have more control over the volume?
2- it's quite bright sounding! I was able to dial in the tone I like but I find it too bright even with decent amount of low and mid, the brights are sticking out. Will changing tubes help that?
right now it has JJ ECC83S in V1 and JJ 5751 in V2
THANKS

You should really get a Brake Lite. That will take care of the volume issue.

I don't remember my older one being as bright.
