As noted in another thread, I let the other guitar player in my band use my Ghia combo for Thursday's gig. I used my Remedy with Z-Best loaded with Heritage greenbacks.
I use the Ghia for almost all my gigs now, and when I do use the Remedy for the bigger gigs, I usually use it with an open back 1x12 creamback M. (and the harmonic content is fantastic.) But Thursday I used the Z-best...a cabinet I haven't used since October at an outdoor gig. (and have hardly ever used)
I forgot to take my Airbrake so I had to go 20 watt setting. Even with those 96db Heritage greenbacks, the few seconds I tried on 40 watts was just too loud. And I struggled dialing things in most of the night, wishing I had my Ghia. I don't think I've ever used the Z-best indoors. I guess I'm just more accustomed to using the Ghia combo. I remember using the Remedy w/ 1x12 creamback last fall, and it sounded great, so I'm thinking I'm not getting along with the Z-best. Great cabinet, but perhaps not the best for twang. (gotta pick the right tool.)
You just LOOK at the bass knob on the amp and that Z-best start pumping out more bass!
Now I've got 6 weeks off (and actually looking forward to it), but the next gig will be the Ghia.
In May, we've got two gigs at the place where we played Thursday, and I wonder if I'll use the Ghia or Remedy w/ creamback. This place has a nice big stage, with incredible PA and lights. And I'm considering taking my little Ghia combo and leaning in front of me like a monitor. Sound man may be happier if I did.
