I might have mentioned this before. I've been using this tape for 3 or more years now and I'll never go back to Velcro. I bought a new roll (6 bucks) and thought I'd share. If there was any learning curve it was to not use too much. It's real sticky. But using 4 small squares does the trick. I like it because: 1- No sticky residue. Comes off clean when it needs to be replaced/removed. 2- Last a long time. Even after multiple pedal swaps. Even if you set it sticky side down on a carpet a bunch of times. 3- Firm feel when stomping. No mushy feel or moving around. 4- Cheaper 5- Can be folded two or three times thick and leave your rubber feet on. 6- Can rip off a piece in a pinch if need be. Drawbacks: 1- First time you might put on too much and the pedal will be difficult to remove. 2- Might want to keep a piece of waxed paper handy to store the pedal. Give it a try. You won't go back. This is about how much I use. I would consider this amount to be "heavy". Try half as much first. Still pretty easy to pop off the pedal with one hand. But so much really isn't needed.

Other than what the package says I don't know much more about it. I buy it at the local hardware store. 3M Scotch rubberized outdoor mounting tape. It has to be this kind. The white foam looking tape sucks and isn't reusable. This type is rubber with sticky on both sides.

awesome, great idea!! I love stuff like this. what i've been doing lately is putting original blue painters tape on the back of my pedals and then sticking velcro on top of that. It hasn't failed me yet. Also, if you ever have old velcro stuck on a pedal, take a blow dryer to it to warm up the velcro and the velcro will come off a lot easier without pealing paint.

Thanks for the tip Nick! I think this stuff could have a lot of uses. Shock mount for reverb tanks , etc. Cool.

How does it hold up to hot or cold? I store my pedal board in the trunk or garage between gigs. I've had some velcro move or come loose when really hot or cold.
thanks rp

It holds up real well in high heat / freezing cold. I keep my spare board and pedals in the garage. Sometimes I go out there to grab a pedal from the board. The tape doesn't get gooey or loose at all. When mounting pedals with this stuff the pedal feels like it's bolted down. Can't wiggle it at all.
Originally I bought the tape to stick new house numbers on my home. The place where the numbers go is brick and I really didn't want to drill a bunch of holes. So I tried the tape. The numbers are fairly heavy wrought iron. They're still holding after 3 or more years of summers and winters. Once I tried the tape I was "hooked". I use it for all sorts of things now.

By the way, I decided to try out the mounting tape idea. Turns out i liked it so much that i took apart my Pedaltrain Jr. and took the old blowdryer to the velcro to get the stuff off (which came off nicely once heated up) and slapped on just a little bit of the mounting tape on the back of my pedals and just like you said it was super solid. I'm loving this way of mounting pedals. It feels more solid and it's not too bad removing pedals either once you get a good grip around one. And like you said, less is more when it comes to this stuff. All you need a tiny bit on each corner and it does the trick. Not to mention is waaaaayyy cheaper than velcro. thanks nicholas!

^ Congrats! You are now free from the hooks and loops! Glad someone else tried it and feels the same way. You won't ever go back. If this gets big, and the velcro company big wigs come after me...... you didn't hear it from me.....

I don't think it would stick to a carpet covered board well. I use it on my pedal train (power coat aluminum) or trailer trash ( laminate like an old kitchen counter top). It sticks to about anything, but to remove it and reuse it a bunch of times it would need to be stuck to something on the smooth side, without loose fibers.

Got some coming from an online merchant MyOfficeInnovations that uses Amazon as its ecommerce site. Less than $6. Shipped free, didn't need to get to a minimum for Amazon free shipping.
Plan to use it to lock the BL into place in the Z Wreck combo.

Finally got around to trying the tape method. Awesome! A little goes a long way. I used a 1/4" - 1/2" square at each corner and I can grab a pedal and pick up the entire board (but still work it loose if I need to move it). Works great on the TrailerTrash hard top board. Thanks for the tip!

I found the red outdoor tape works TOO well. I change my board frequently, and after the red tape has been on there a while, I think it gets even stronger. I pulled one pedal off my board and it pulled some of the anodized paint off the PT board. I have since switched to the green and white type double sided Scotch tape Doc uses on the Brakelite for inner cab fixation. The green and white tape holds very well, but not so well that you have to get pry tools to retrieve yer Tubescreamer.

Lol. We should thank the guys at 3m but then they would market it as pedal board tape and sell it for 20 buck for 16 tiny squares at every guitar center...so ssssshhhhhh!!
I still use this stuff. Lately Ive been cutting about a 1" length off the roll. Then remove the backing from the 1" square. Then cut it into 4 pieces because taking the backer off all the tiny little pieces is a bltch. Its sort of fun to experiment and see how little you actually need! Glad some of you guys like it.

Old thread, figured I add to it rather than start another. I've been using the 3m tape since I started this tread. It's great as long as you have a smooth surface board. Downside is it can be a PITA to remove the red backing. Other than that it's worked really good for me. By happenstance I found this tape called Alien tape. It got me curious as to how it would work on pedals. So I gave it a try. I've been using it over the last 4 months or so. Works fantastic. It's different than the 3m tape in a few ways. •The the backer comes off super easy. •It removes easier from the pedals too. When taking it off it's like those command strips you can use on your walls to hang pictures and stuff. Just peel up a corner with your finger nail and start to stretch it. It comes right off. •It's reusble. You can wash it off under water to get any carpet fibers or crud off it, let it air dry and it's like new again. • It's thicker than the 3m tape. So it works better if your pedal has screws that stick out a little from the base. I haven't had to double it up at all. It works really good. Give er a whirl and see what you think. A little dab'l do ya Don't use too much Alien tape
