For blues and rock. I recently got a smoking deal on a MIM Fender telecaster(after being tele-less for over a year). The guitar is a GOOD one; I've played various MIMs and AmStds that felt lifeless, but this one doesn't. Hated the ceramic bar "hot" pickups, so I bought a set of Cavalier pickups and just put them in. (That's another thread, but I am SUPER IMPRESSED with them. Amazing pickups for an awesome price, check them out. Simply cannot recommend Rob's work MORE).
So I'm loving this tele right now. For you tele players, where do you tend to set your Z28? Like I said, I play blues and rock, some Americana/Alt-Country stuff. No Brake Lite, have a killer OD pedal. Generally like to set the amp for just past the edge of semi-clean/semi-crunchy, where pick attack really matters and clean is just a guitar volume tweak away, then use the pedal as needed. Been playing at 1, 10:30, 1:30(yeah, I like loud). But I'm also interested in where you guys set the 28 for a guitar-cord-amp set up using a tele. These pickups are not extra hot, but hotter than traditional tele pickups, both around the 8K range.
Thanks, Ben

Z28 = Treble 1:30, Bass 1:30, Volume, as appropriate, but not over noon. Clean boost works well for a liitle push, but you are probably good to go w/ just guitar-cable-amp.
I use Seymour Duncan Hot Tele in the neck position and S.D. lil'59er at the bridge; guitar volume around 6 or 7, tone about 6 or 7, adjust from there depending on what you're doing and how you're hearing it.

Try something radical - Max the V, and i mean MAX, and then bring the T&B below noon and down to where you need 'em. Use that GV, and see what you think....... I found that maxing the V adds a whole layer of harmonics into the tone, which some lie and some don't. Give it a go and see what you think.....

Z-28 head into older Z 112 w/ V30 and older Z 210 w/ Z10s Volume @ 11:00 Treble @ 3:00 Bass @ 2:30 straight-in .. no effects (except the occasional Flying Dragon and/or DRaconis) very similar to how I set my Stratocaster, SG, etc etc etc ....... guitar volume and tone to taste throw a coupla well-placed mics into place and you can pretty much cover it all ... imho edit: add your favorite dirt/drive/distorto pedal and anythin' else that makes your 'sound' .... and you'll be smilin' imho cheers always, eh Joel
