How close is the tone of these 2 amps? I currently have a Z wreck M-12 and MV Remedy- I am going to get a maz 8 -But I hear all this talk about the Z-28 and wondering how much of a duplication it is. I know it's cleaner-but can get dirty: I'm more curious as to the over all tone:

Z28 has a more ballsy fuller tone than the Maz8 - the Maz range tends towards chime.
There is a definite sibling relationship with the Remedy (the way the Doc does his 6V6 power section), but with an EF86 front end, the overall effect is different. The Remedy has much more gain on tap, and more compression due to the 12AX7s. However, if you play the Remedy reasonably clean, you can definitely think of the Z28 as it's little brother, where as you couldn't say that about a Maz.
I would say, and I am happy to be very corrected on this, that the Maz range and Z Wreck would sit on the same park bench; whereas the Remedy and Z28 would sit together on a different bench. I don't know where the M12 sits as I've never heard or played one.

I sold my Remedy when I got my Z28. I can get very good Marshall type tones from my Z28! And brownface Fender tones.

I have a Z28, a Remedy (no mods), and a Maz 18NR. Unless I have an outdoor gig that requires 40 watts I always go for the 28 (but I can't bring myself to let the other two go). It just has IT.

To me the Z28 has a more responsive feel. It's rounder and a little more open and much more dynamic. Takes pedals better too.

You can always use pedals to make your Z-28 more aggressive. You can't do the opposite with the Remedy...

I agree with Pete & markT. Not saying that the Z-28 & Remedy are identical, but you might find yourself saying "well, I already have this sonic territory covered" with either one of the amps. I was in that boat, too.

--what are you selling next? a maz 8 by chance? Sold that long ago!!! lol ....Keep your eyes peeled into the BST....you may not believe your eyes! ...I love every Dr Z amp I've ever had. But I can't keep them all and can't really tell if they fit my needs till I try them in different situations and put them head to head with each other. Love my Z28!....could it be yours next??
