Changed my mind .... about settings Been playing my stock-standard mij 62 Strat r.i. thru Z-28 into old-style rectangle Z-210 cabinet. No effects - not even a tuner or my beloved Flying Dragons or Draconis. Planet Waves cable with a 'standby' switch. Volume is now set @ 12:30 Treble is now set @ 3:30 Bass is now set @ 1:30 swmbo says my guitar sounds better than ever - true our kids say I got a good Fender Stratocaster sound goin' on - they so smart sometimes but I caint figure out why the neighbours all have that awkward look as of late ...... really .... and waiting to see what happens when my 112 cab returns to the equation along the 210 cab and I re-discover the joys of the infamous Y-cable cheers always, Joel

Cool stuff , Joel. I have a small-box rectangular Z 1x12 , I want to find the same in a 2x10 someday and pair them up. Really cool you found your settings.

My basic amp settings don't change much except minor tweaking for different guitars and pups. After I sold all of my crunchy el-84 Z's and got the EZG I did do kind of a shift in my Z-28 settings however. Before the EZG, I ran the Z-28 with both tones between 11:00 & 1:00 and the volume between 9:00 and noon. The Maz and Ghia did the dirty duty. Having all of those big glorius cleans from the EZG (even though they are quite different from the Z-28's cleans) has me exploring the 2:00-3:00 area of the tone knobs on the Z-28 most of the time now. Just shows me again why I believe that the Z-28 is the Doc's greatest design. It's so simple and there just isn't a bad sound to be had out of it.
