I mostly play rock with my 25th Ghia. As suggested in another thread, I've been running the volume wide open, tone around 11. I then push it, when needed, with a KoT. I'm playing a Gibson 339 with Fralin humbuckers, and I play in the bridge position (mostly). I use my guitar's volume when needed to lighten up just a bit.
We're starting to add some songs that have more clean parts. Cutting the volume down on my guitar (or via EB Jr Vol) doesn't quite get me there. If I roll back the Ghia's volume to 1:00, switch to my neck pickup with volume on 7, get's me closer, athough a bit muddy and I'm not sure I will cut through with that treble cut. It might work, but I also notice I'm losing some sustain. I thought about trying another compressor, but the Wampler Ego I had before I couldn't get right.
How are you getting your clean sound with humbuckers and a ghia?

Maybe an EQ pedal? Paul Gilbert uses single channel amps and uses a special eq pedal to get cleans. I've never tried it but it's the first thing that came to mind. It's called the Homebrew Electronics Detox EQ. www.homebrewelectronics.com/signature.htmlHope you find something that works for you! -Justin

Yeah, this is a tough one. When I run the Ghia hot, "clean" is at about 2-3 on the guitar volume. I tend to find that the middle position works best for this.

Thanks, that pedal looks awesome, might have to try it out.
I'm playing a 1x12 (middle panel removed) with a red tone tubby on the bottom, and a 2x10 with z's speakers on top of that. Both are the Dr's convertible cabs.
I thought about trying a Celestion Gold.

Maybe also try a tube with less gain in V1? Should give more clean headroom, but then you may lack some of the crunch you desire. Its a tough balancing act.
I typically set my Ghia to a bit of crunch with whatever guitar I'm using (so for humbuckers, that's around 1030am on the dial). That way, rolling the guitar volume off to 8 or so is clean, without much treble loss. If I need more gain, pedals get clicked.

Your speakers are already up in the 100db range, so try to slightly drop the pups. Start with the bridge pup then balance the neck to that. With not pedals you should be able to get some nice cleans with humbuckers and guitar vol, then use the KoT to boost with less drive. You'll get it after tweaking. I found that moderate low KoT on the yellow and for solos about 3:30 drive on the Red side of the KoT.
FWIW, the C-Gold 12 is probably no louder or cleaner than your tone tubby... 12" Red Fang can get you a couple few more dbs.
