I have Z amps that my friend loves but he wants something smaller for bar and maybe club sized gigs. I am trying to steer him to the M12 since it has the same tone stack as my KT and Route but much less in the power section.
How loud is it at about 2-3 o'clock on the volume? In the demos it seems like that is about the breakup point for single coils.
I might also steer him towards the Z-28 since it is a slight bump in power.

It will, of course, depend in part on the speaker(s). Which ones are under consideration?

Ahh, he would be getting the combo and probably wanting more cleans so my guess would be the 1x12 or 2x10, not the 1x10.

In a few of the demos I have seen they also have the bass and treble around 3'oclock which past noon you start to get drive from those controls. I use mine with an avatar 2x12 and 2x greenbacks at church and it is loud enough to hear myself over a drummer. Volume right around noon, bass around 11 treble same.

Is it still clean at that point or starting to breakup?

I would say that if you set it like I said you shouldn't have much volume problems unless you get really high, but again I have a large cabinet 2x12 although they are greenbacks.
