Greetings all,
I picked up an early model Carmen Ghia this afternoon; not sure what generation exactly, but the faceplate has "Z amp" in the left corner and the chassis is stamped K 7299.
It only has one speaker jack which is unlabeled so I'm assuming it's an 8ohm tap but would like to be sure rather than fry a OT. Can anyone confirm if it's an 8ohm or 4ohm?
Thanks! - Mike

The letter indicates the year. Believe K=2000. I have a M series, which is 2002. I'm sure someone can help on the output tap. Mine has a 4 and 8 ohm tap.

Welcome to the Forum! A lot of good information and great people here. The 299 at the end of the serial number indicates it is the 299th Ghia made. The 7 indicates it is a Ghia model. The K does mean it was made in 2000. Can't help with the output tap but I'm sure someone will (my guess is 8 ohm since that is what Doc usually does).

Hmmm...is there a switch to flip on the back? My Mini Z has only one output jack too but with a toggle right next to it that goes from 4 to 8 ohm. Maybe earlier CG's had something similar?

thanks fellas!
no switch or any labeling on the back panel; sure looks to be stock; there's a another hole in the chassis but it looks to be factory plugged off. Even if there's a wire color from the OT that determines the tap impedance that would be enough for me to tell.
I plan on opening it up and cleaning the pots tomorrow so I'll know the OT wire color then. I would imagine its an 8ohm; can't see why anyone would deliberately remove a speaker output, and 8ohm seems to be the go-to tap for most.

I own a version one Mazerati from the same year. K11015 We don't see many around here that often. It's an exceptional masterclass amp imho. The Doc was building some fine rigs back then and of course still is in spades. Can you lay a few pics on us? Hope you stick around a while this is a really fun forum, great peeps. Eric

IIRC, the earlier ghias had a single tap that could be used with 4, 8, or 16 ohm loads. I think it is actually a 4 ohm tap.

I used to have a single speaker-out ghia. I used with my 8 ohm cab no problem.
