I have my Swart STR-Tweed up for sale in the BST here and in a few other places. I had someone offer me an '04 Z-28 2x10 combo (will come with Z's 10s) in trade. I had been contemplating putting some money towards a Remedy, but this potential trade has me a bit interested. I had a Rt 66 a while ago and I really liked the sounds that I got out of it, just a bit much for me, so maybe might like the 28. I was also thinking about adding a 10" to my 1x10 Ghia, so I would save having to lay out any cash plus get another amp full of Z goodness. The guy with the trade is local, so I would be able to check out the amp before making any decisions. He is the original owner and the amp has supposedly never left his house. The amp is tan, but the tolex on the body of the amp seems to have changed color a bit. Struggling with it a little bit and was hoping to maybe get some outside thoughts/opinions. What do you guys think?

I'd do it! It also looks like you're also getting an alnico and ceramic tone tubby. I have both of those amps and while I really like the STR Tweed, the Z28 is a lot more versatile and I like it more.

The amp will come with Z 10's. The Tone Tubby's have been taken out.

It will sound great with the z 10s. I would still do it. Currently running mine with 2 10" greenbacks.

You might as well - you'll get to try another Z, and if you decide you still would rather have a Remedy, odds are it will be an easy sell or trade here on the BST...

^^^ Like limenine says, you might as well try it. That is a sweet little Z28. The Z10's will sound great, but those Tone Tubby AlNiCo and Ceramic combo (Hemp-Bomb), looks sweet as well. Although, they may have been a little too dark for the owner in the Z28. As far as the Z28 vs Remedy, others will disagree, but I could get get these 2 amps to sound very similar. Sweet, thick Marshall type tones are to be had from the Z28....and more. I sold my Remedy after a few weeks with the Z28.
Good luck~

Never heard a Swart STR-Tweed in person but I own a Z 28 and do have a DR Z 2x10 cab. Love the Z28. I would say do it because I know you are getting a very versatile amp. Again, never heard a Swart STR-Tweed in person

Assuming the Z-28 is in decent shape -- may need new power tubes, for example -- sounds like a good trade. You can swap the Z-28 and Ghia chassis, which provides some additional options to you for the future.

Similar to the above I never played a Swart or heard one in person. The demos I've seen sound great, but so do Z-28's. By the fact that you have your Swart up for sale you have already decided to part company. If you are dead set on a Remedy, then the the Z-28 will only be a temporary fix. If on the other hand you are open to the Z-28, then you just accomplished your goal of selling the Swart to get something else. You can always save for a Remedy or sell the Z-28 for a Remedy down the road. I'm not sure, but I think the Z-28 will sell quicker than a Swart. Maybe someone having more experience with Swart is better able to comment on my last statement.

The "discoloration" of the Z28 cab is in all likelihood the result of the glue that Doc was using back then. Had a tendency to turn the cabs a pinkish-blond. Have one myself which is why I know why that happened. Certainly does not affect sound quality - which is great! I have the 4x10 Z-28 combo - not as thick as the Route 66 but great in it's own right. p.s. - still enjoying that Route 66 - played it just the other night

That's the exact amp I own, a 2005 with Z 10's, same color and everything, and I love it. Two years of owning it now, still love it. I bought it used for $1000 off the local Craigslist. Dunno what the Swart value is. You cant go wrong with the amp, unless youre losing money.

I have both the Z28 and the Remedy - love them both, but the Remedy with the MV mod gets most of my airtime these days.
I would jump at this - as has been said, if you want to move up to a Remedy, you will have no problems selling a Z28 through the BST - they are pretty rare and much sought after!

Just do it. A lil' strawberry-blond Z-28 with a pair of 10s is worth plenny in terms of tone Remedy is equally a cool amp - dig the ability to run full power or half power, love the feel and strength, and it just has a certain tonality that makes it worth having just as much as Z-28
Good luck with the trade, and then figuring out what the next Z Amp will be that expands your collection cheers always, Joel

I've played both and own a Z-28. To me the '28 is more useful for my style. The Swart, while great sounding, left me wanting more headroom and volume. The '28 doesn't have that issue. For a swap I'd say go for it. Like the previous posts I think you can move the '28 much faster than the Swart if you weren't happy with it. The Remedy is a killer amp and killer loud. That's why I still have the '28 and didn't buy a Remedy. Good luck with your choice. The + is you get to try it out and hear if it works for you rather than shipping it off somewhere and not being happy on your end of the deal.

And if you don't like the Z-28, in a couple of months, after I pay for my wedding, I will try to take it off you hands.

I've neglected this thread for a bit… My apologies… In any event, I immediately turned around after posting this thread and sent an email accepting the offer only to get an almost immediate response saying that he already sold it. was WAY quick. Said he would've preferred the local trade. Oh well. Still trying to unload the Swart Glad to hear it! That is an awesome amp!!!
