The overall clarity and percussive nature of this amp provides sonic bliss! Clean or with overdrive stomps she's a monster. Welcome back 'ray! I am pushing some sweet vintage Marshall tones with a Wampler Plexidrive and Xotic BB Preamp, SL Drive.

Thanks all! Glad to be in the club. Doc you really hit on something special when you designed the Sting/Stang Ray...but you knew that already. Thanks for the comment Z... My best to you and the family in 2014!

Welcome back to the Ray club Paul. And what a great looking Stingray and cab. Probably still got some of that Gleason Mojo workin'. And yes the Ray can rock but I'd be preaching to the choir brother Paul. I can hear your tastly tele bender licks already.

Not my normal section to be lurking-in ... or even posting-in .... but I gotta say it's a great day when you got yourself that 'Ray. And, gotta agree that it's an amp that is well suited to your style. Play it strong and make it sing! Congrats and cheers always, Joel

This is the perfect amp for you Paul, congrats........ I agree. I miss mine. I'd like to give it another chance now that I have a creamback. The gold I was using was just too loud. (creamback was not available at the time.) The percussiveness and firm bottom end of the 'ray are fantastic.

John - I would like to try a Creamback. I do like the amp with a pair of blues, and a G1265 V30 combo. The G12H30 sounds meh to me with the Ray.

John - I would like to try a Creamback. I do like the amp with a pair of blues, and a G1265 V30 combo. The G12H30 sounds meh to me with the Ray. Even though I express my distaste for the H often on the forum...I REALLY can't stand it with the 'ray. I remember trying the amp with an H once....yep, it was terrible. The 'ray has a big firm bottom end, and scooped mids, with bright high end. The H speaker has the same thing. Big 50 oz. magnet, recessed mids and crispy highs. The end result was no mids, too much high end and too much thumping bass. In my opinion, the 'ray needs to be paired with a mid oriented speaker. I've always thought the blues had a lot in common with greenbacks. And since the creamback is voiced after the greenback, it's in the same ballpark. You pair a 65 and a V30? There's a 3db difference between them. I would think the V30 would be the dominate tone. But I could see the mid heavy V30 sounding alright with the 'ray. And if I'm going to dream, I'd love to hear the 'ray with a 2x10 cabinet with 10" greenbacks at only 95 db. Geez, I miss my 'ray. Seller's remorse and it's been about three or 4 years.

Good stuff guys. I agree with John's H assessments on being a poor match with the Ray, in my case it was a horrible match. A 2x10 greenback cab sounds interesting and would really like to try a creamback too. Still my fav with the Ray is a Weber Alnico Blue Dog 50w, which is a very inefficient speaker. I don't know the rating but it's quieter than my G12-65 and or Greenback. I would call it a darker speaker and smooths out the Ray's high end. As crazy as it sounds the blue dog tone in my oversized 1x12 open back cab reminds me of my old Super Reverb but with sweeter high end breakup and firmer low end. As much as I dislike the G12H-30 with the Ray I do like the Ray into a stock Z-Best Cab. It's loud as hell but sounds good.

Congrats, Paul! The Ray sure is something special. Mine will be with me until I bequeath it! Best. Amp. Ever. I like mine best with a pair of well broken in blues OR a Z-Best. Enjoy! And in case you didn't know, high input & volume at 2:30+, twiddle as you will.

I am pushing some sweet vintage Marshall tones with a Wampler Plexidrive and Xotic BB Preamp, SL Drive. That's a sweet amp. One that I really miss, But had to make a choice between the two and I Decided to stick with the RX's as they fit me a bit better. I used a BB with mine A LOT too, also liked the Draconis and the Luxury Drive was wonderful. sweet with a 2x12 cab and a strat... Some of THE best Strat tones I ever heard. Please take care of her, but I know you will...
