When I first got my ghia, and then my 25th ghia, I was playing clean and using OD pedals (Wampler Plexi-drive, MXR Super Badass, Suhr Riot). Now, I'm finding that I just love the OD of the amp itself. Sometimes it's not enough, I need to push it more. My volume is at 1:00, tone at 10:00-10:30, and MV at 3, with humbuckers. I'm playing through a 1x12 Z convertible cab with middle panel removed, and a 2x10 z convertable cab closed on top of that.
The EP booster works pretty good, the Wampler, too.
What are you guys using now to push an overdriven ghia? OCD? Timmy?

King of Tone, or, lately a Lovepedal Eternity burst. I run an OCD also, but have it set up for fairly heavy drive.

King of tone or Timmy work really well for that. I'm also using an OCD, but like it better through a cleanish amp with the OCD set for real dirty

I usually just dime the Ghia volume and use the guitar volume to control clean/dirty/roar. The Ghia's tubes cookin' can't be matched by any pedal I've found. The only thing I ever add if it needs to be way over the top is the Lizard Leg Flying Dragon. Great clean boost that doesn't add any 'color'.
Try that CG volume all the way up...it doesn't get louder really, just more tube screamin' goodness.

The Tim (OD) Barber Direct Drive with the custom board for high gain and Exotic BB for OD all sound good to me. Pretty much any quality OD or Dist pedal sounds good with the ghia. For the last year I've been using a Line 6 HD500 board and use the Tube Screamer and or Rat emulators. I can see the eyes rolling and snickers but it sounds good live and can cover a wide range of musical styes. If I was recording I would likely go straight in and crank it up.

I am hooked on the Xotic RC Boost. I think a cleanish boost pedal does a better job with the Ghia.
Timmy, Barber, etc... All good suggestions too.
I am less fond of using a pedal with lots of gain or a pedal that heavily colors the sound with the Ghia.
So for my tastes the Xotic BB or Fulltone OCD or similar - would be a little much with the Ghia. Even though they are great pedals.

Lately I've been experimenting by stacking an xotic ep boost and a xotic rc boost --both of them set fairly low--for a little different tone. Half of the time I just crank the Ghia WFO and use the guitar volume to taste. The other half, I'll turn the CG volume down between 12 and 1 and use the Ep or the RC boost to spice things up a bit. It's really hard to get a bad tone out of the Ghia unless you just over saturate it with too much gain or fuzz from a pedal. I change my settings periodically and can always find a useable tone. To me, a boost works best with the CG--and usually not much of that if at all.

Mojo Hand FX Rook and Rook Royale.... they are awesome, Overdrives the Ghia and keeps its original sound and tone exactly the same...No tone change at all just more drive....

I am back using a Keeley time machine and a OCD. I have been using a Zvex Box of Rock which works well with my Maz 18NR ... Still tweaking to find the right sound with the Ghia.

Asking 100 people what overdrive they like...you're going to get 100 different answers. VERY subjective.

I really love TS type pedals with my Ghia. Foxrox ZIM with VT card is my favorite. Zendrive is also very nice.

I think mine was built by Alf in 2006 ....is there difference now? I love the way if morphs with the amps tone and makes it bigger and pushes it a little

I use the SignaDrive, but I'll bet most drives will get you what you want. I bounce between just plugging straight in or augmenting with a boost. I only need a wee bit of the SignaDrive to get that extra tone and sustain that I'm looking for. So, if you're just about there with the Ghia, a little bit will get you all of the way there, and only needing a little bit means most drives will probably do the trick.

Looks like a Zendrive will set me back about $400. Currently looking at a KOT for $325.

Don't forget about the Skreddy Screwdriver...it's really nice sounding and very versatile. . . AND it's not $400 bucks.

Update: Scored a KOT from a TGP member. All I have to say is WOW. It pushes the Ghia...just..perfectly. It's the best sounding overdrive I've ever played. Having the 2 different sides of the pedal makes it very versitile for me. More gain one side, boost on the other. Bye bye other pedals.
