Hey guys just wondering what the stickers on the side of my stangray chassis mean. Also I don't think he tubes in it are original. It has 4 sylvania 6b5q power tube, a sovtek 5ar4 and a Millard in either v 1 or v2. I can't see the other one because it seems to have a cover on it. are the sylvania tubes as good as the stock ones which should have been a quad set of JJ's??? and the stickers?

It's just info the shop uses. I suspect the top one is the completion and the tape below a record of the 'quality Assurance' work. Sometimes the dealer is on there....I'm not sure what 'Action' is, but IIRC my dealer's name is on there on the one amp I own that I took out of the head shell.

The cover can come off of the tube, but if you weren't aware of that maybe you shouldn't have the chassis out in the first place. Some high voltages that can wake you and/or put you to sleep permanently. Just sayin'.

I hear ya bluzman. I just had to pull the chassis out to get the cabs recovered by mojotone. As far as touching anything, I know better. I wouldn't dare even replace a tube...I'm just not knowledgable enough.
Just out of curiosity, what part of the amp is dangerous?

Keith I was more curious about the piece of tape that says 1/13. Maybe a service call for the amp?

EVERYTHING inside where the wiring and the soldering is most dangerous.

Ok I'm good then. I don't even go as far as touching the tubes.

As far as the tubes go, I'm not seeing any mention of new Sylvania el84 type tubes so I would say they are NOS and probably better sounding than JJ's if they still have life left in them. The Ray works output tubes hard, even if you're not playing loud or at rest they are pushing current, a feature of class A amp design. You may not notice it over time but if you play the amp a lot the output tubes gradually loose some of the Stangray magic. If your output tubes are tired, and you install new ones it's like the mojo has been reinserted into your Ray. V1 is your ef86 and I suspect you have a good one installed in the amp but if you don't, that's where you want your best tube to be, IMHO. Because ej86 pre-amp tubes are a higher gain tube heat shrink and tube rings are frequently installed to reduce the potential for microphonic noise. Congratulations on your Stangray purchase. When you crank up the volume on the ray it can rock! The blues and golds are great speakers for the Ray but don't be afraid to crank the Ray thru a G12-65 or creamback speaker, it can rock! And the lower efficiency of those speakers bring the volume down to manageable levels.

Hmmm...obviously not the serial # I wonder if its "1 of 13" indicating the number of Rays in that production run? I should pull one of my heads to see what's on mine. Keith

Built 8-6-07 by JP
Tested 8-13-07
Action Music dealer
1/13 no idea what that is...
As for swapping tubes and all that. Its easy. You wont get shocked or anything. The cover can come off as well. EL84 no bias so you can swap as you please. Your tubes might be NOS and way better than stock.
